Re: Ryzen and Linux: A cautionary tale

Centos is hard to install on actual hardware. I had trouble installing Centos 7 on Dell C2D laptop as well as Thinkpad T420s until I disabled nVidia GPU. I love Centos on the server but it doesn't play well on desktops. Good to know about Ryzen on Linux. Centos (and RHEL) really are designed to be ...

Re: iMac Pro includes the A10 Fusion

I didn't say first move :P The T1 iirc was something similar to the OG Apple Watch SoC? A10 Fusion is decidedly more capable, and I'm sure will be used for a lot more than hey Siri. The “big move” will be when Apple replaces Intel CPUs with their own in house designs. That would be the final move i...

Oh, duh. Yeah, hadn't been reading the thread too carefully. I even responded to the "fod" part, but the whole "devasting" thing whizzed right past me.

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

The solution there is to mount the large monitor to an arm so that it floats above the desk, leaving the whole surface free for relatively-short stuff. Good idea. Not sure how well that would work; there's a partition attached to the back of the desk. The partition is kind of superfluous though, gi...

What is this thing people have against large displays? I mean I had folks look at me funny after I tell them I'm using a 30" monitor even after I explain that I'm using 2560x1600 resolution as well. I mean don't get me wrong, I can see those who simply don't have the room or the money to spare...

Re: What is your sound set up?

My setup is objectively pathetic. I have an old pair of iPhone earbuds hooked up to the front panel headphone jack on my case, run through built in audio. Aside from no audio at all, I can’t imagine a much worse setup. The reason for all that is that my computer room is too close to bedrooms, so I ...

Looks like Jonnyguru really likes it, except for the fact that with some cases you physically can't mount it in the required orientation, due to how the screw holes are arranged.

Re: Another "Time for a new PSU?" thread

It's worse that that now - most modern cases mount the PSU at the bottom, and most of those now have segregated PSU shrouds that force you to mount a PSU with the fan facing down over some filtered intake. My current case has the PSU at the bottom, but no shroud. So something like the Seasonic pass...

A timely article by Anandtech on Best PC Power Supplies https://www.anandtech.com/show/12056/best-psus Those passively cooled Seasonics are interesting, though the vent placement seems problematic to me. They need to be mounted with the large vent facing up, which means with a bottom-mount PSU the ...

Have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes and plugging it back in? Or maybe it is just waiting for you to reprogram the temperature set point(s)?

You could see if the manufacturer sells replacement parts, or maybe there are parts available on eBay.

LostCat obviously knows that. He just thinks it's a stupid joke. It always has been. I didn't know that you could do ray tracing on a C64/C128/. I bet that was a lot of work setting all of that up. how did you "networked" them together? You can do anything - albeit at a certain scale and speed - with even a lowly 8-bit computer. Start with the basic building blocks. Write...

The university I attended was very focused on low-level coding and high concepts, which I really liked, but the most useful thing I ever learned is how to deal with floats.
