You've probably already spent more time trying to repair it than it would've taken you to wipe it and start over.

Re: Video card prices

I don't think paying an extra $20 on a $500 item is "getting ripped". That's only a 4% difference. If that included shipping it may have even been completely in line with the deals you've seen. EVGA is a decent brand too. That alone may be worth the extra $ depending on what brand the othe...

Thurisaz - Circadian Rhythm (2007) More random Euro-Metal tonight (though not Scandinavian this time, they're apparently Belgian). Just stumbled onto them, never heard of (let alone heard) them before. Wikipedia seems to think they're Black/Doom/Death Metal... not sure I 100% agree with that. I hear...

I've found that I have a slight preference for the lower actuation force and key travel of the MX blues compared to buckling spring. But either is better than rubber dome, scissor, or (especially) Apple's new low-profile mechanisms.

On the subject of DACs Modern DAC components and amplifier devices typically have amazing PSRR ratings (power supply rejection ratio). Meaning even with noisy power, most noise wont make it into the signal chain. These designs are necessary in the era of switching power supplies typically used for ...

In HS we learned to type on IBM "Wheelwriter" typewriters. My current place of employment had several in use when I started, and still has a couple. I would imagine they're some sort of buckling spring similar to a Model M, but the keyfeel is excellent. Yeah, the Wheelwriter used buckling...

I'm with you that most ciders are way too sweet. I've had a local brand that was pretty good from Sweetland Orchard. Most don't like it because it's not the spiked apple juice that most have come to expect. They make some good stuff, just hard to find. What's amazing about cider, especially that br...

Why are all the major news outlets running stories about the guy who stayed in his Hawaii home at the eruption site after the evacuation order, and had his leg shattered by a "lava bomb"? The guy's an idiot. We're rewarding his stupidity by giving him his 15 minutes of fame.

Even a USB audio solution will still need to deal with noise coming in on the power rails. I wouldn't bet on a $6 external DAC handling that decently. With one exception, the onboard audio on the last half-dozen or so desktop motherboards I've bought have been deficient in only one specific area: ab...

I'm not sure if motherboard designers have gotten better at doing audio, or if the move to more motherboard PCB layers is responsible for the improvement. Probably some of both. On the source side, audio solutions in general seem to have peaked in the past 10-ish years. Factory car stereos, motherb...

They seem to have switched to numerical-only locker codes for some reason (was previously a mix of numbers and letters). I wonder why they did that; it drastically reduces the number of possible combinations (1 million possible combinations now vs. ~2 billion before, as it's a 6-character code). Whi...

On my recent vacation I opened our work Slack workspace a couple of times, since I was curious about some drama that had been going on with a co-worker.
