Re: AMD FX owners wanted to help test optimisation tool

Unfortunately I haven't got any programming skill at all, so all I could be is a guinea pig spitting numbers in your general direction. I ran some fraps testing with skyrim in windowed mode (because it will be inoperable if you alt tab) and changed the core affinity manually in task manager as a pre...

Re: AMD FX owners wanted to help test optimisation tool

Interesting program concept here Will. It caught my eye and I am interested in being a guinea pig for your programming experiment. I happen to have an FX 8120 I'm using right now and would really like to find more performance out of it. If you could gather a list of programs you would like to see te...

Re: ASUS M5A97 EVO AM3+(using 1600 ram)

Darn, I was hoping you had similar issues with an AMD FX processor making it difficult to reboot. That's for another time. I've got a pair of 1866 MHz dd3 modules in my M5a97 (Non EVO), and it functions properly. It shipped with bios 0503 and had no trouble with memory. It might give you better supp...

Re: Hooking up PC Sound to Hometheater via Optical Out

Well. Something I might be able to help with. I will share with you what I know. HDMI audio over a graphics card is going to only be supported on those that support said stuff. Unfortunately you would need a newer graphics card to do so. I believe the GTX 200 series won't... as it came out around th...

Re: Bathurst 1000

Hey how about that. I'm watching that right now. This is probably one of the more interesting races out there, next to formula 1 in my opinion. Those Australian V8 supercars are pretty zippy. Especially considering the cars used are Ford and GM Subsidary, Holden's saloons. The Ford falcon and Holden...

Re: diamond cooling properties

Ah yes. Diamond is indeed the best naturally occuring thermal conductor. Or at least as far as I know. I saw a youtube video of some guy making thermal paste out of industrial diamond powder and mixing it with (what is it, silicon?) paste in an altoid's tin as the dust is invasive and can screw up y...

Re: Wii U?

I've allways thought the ultimate goal in creating a game system is to have it's user interface as simple and intuitive as possible. Controllers have become more and more ergonomic and light, or incorporate natural movements. I think the Wii's 'motes had merit, if a little obtrusive. But this ridicu...

Re: How hard is FFIV (DS version)?

Hey I've got that one. Yes, it is rather hard at times, but the challenge is fair and worth it in the end. Some bosses will require a few tries, but who didn't have to try some bosses again when they played a game such as this the first time? Toward the end it also gets rather difficult in which you...

Re: SSD vs. hard drive for laptop

I think I could at least give some anecdotal words of advice here. Take them if you will. My old Asus F3ka-x1 (Sig) has had several hard drive changes in it, most recently having two different SSDs in it. Starting from a 5400 rpm 120gb toshiba I think, it was painfully slow for the most part. I upgr...

Re: Mini Din 9, Leadtek TV card cable?

Well I did it again. I went out and bought an A/V multi format cable for the older nintendo systems, playstation 2/3 and original xbox from gameshtepp and a F/F S-video adapter from radioshaq. I then hacked up one of my many S-video cables and rolled the signal and ground wires to properly fit the l...

Re: Mini Din 9, Leadtek TV card cable?

Well allright I found something that suited my needs. If you look at a 7 pin mini din component cable (in which I have at least half a dozen of them) the pins are very similar. Surprisingly, contrary to the pin layout on the leadtek 9 pin port in my previous post, they are set more or less like the ...

Mini Din 9, Leadtek TV card cable?

I hate to never be so much of a usefull contributor to the TR crew but once again I come to you guys with a dilemma. Re: Help me pick a racing game

I noticed that too, except it's only for CONTROLLERS rather than wheels. It was probably put there to give controller users a bit of an edge over wheel using players. It helped me out alot when I turned up the sensitivity, but unfortunately it's not for the wheel. I hope a new patch will come out ad...

I was just thinking about this thread the other day, when I dropped 150 big ones on a logitech driving force GT. Despite all my controller advocacy, I decided to see what it was like on the other fence and by golly is it greener. F1 2010 has an artificial limitation on steering sensitivity with a co...

Re: Shop-Vac® filter "mod"

Haha. I don't think there's anything wrong with Red Greening your case a little. Supposing whatever 140mm fan you choose can move more air than the other fans remove, then you'd have the positive air pressure you're looking for. Actually I'm starting to think about doing something like this for my o...

I'm guessing you've taken the liberty to air tightly seal every orifice and crevasse throughout your case so the top 140mm is the ONLY possible intake, yes?

I think the game looks great, a little TOO clear but great nevertheless. Barring the spectators being low res sprites and the skybox being a rather low resolution that doesn't move when you drive, it's a damn pretty game.

Re: Would an SSD help? Gaming level loading on an MMORPG

I guess everyone has helped you quite well, but I might aswell throw in my two pence. I used to play alot of lineage 2. Re: Help me pick a racing game

I'd have to say Grid, Dirt2 and NFS Shift are my favourites. I've been in a huge racing game binge over the past 6 months and those are probably my favourite. Grid and DiRT 2 tend to be pretty similar, though, as they're made with pretty much the same engine; dirt 2 being more advanced though. NFS S...

Small keyboard for small hands?

I thought I'd invoke the gerbils that be to guide me in the direction of an ideal keyboard for a person with tiny fingers. I'm no expert but it sounds like it could be a power supply problem. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but perhaps all four cores is too much for your power supply. What is it's wattage, anyway?
