Re: Mazda and Bose

Installing my own was quite the adventure since you have to tap into the front speakers before the amplifier... At least you've got one of the newer setups. IIRC, if you want to do anything to the older Bose system in my 2000 Miata, you have to replace the entire system , from the head unit, to the...

Re: Mazda and Bose

I've got a 2014 Mazda 3s GT and it came with the Bose sound package. While yeah it's decent for a factory installed sound system, I'm not sure I'd consider it super high end or anything. It didn't even include a subwoofer. Installing my own was quite the adventure since you have to tap into the fron...

Re: Summer project: VHS transfer

While it's true you can get some higher-end units that have s-video, unless your source tapes are super VHS you will see zero difference. This is because a regular old VHS camcorder / VCR would have recorded the signal to the tape as composite. Outputting from a VCR with s-video at this point will u...

Re: HDMI splitter

I've got this guy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BGBU3X6 . It doesn't have auto switching / sensing, but it does come with a simple remote, and also cooperates with my Harmony remote. It outputs 1080p, is compact, very solid and easy to use. My only complaint is the bright LEDs on the front, b...

Re: graphic card not compatible with mobo HELP PLEASE

I have actually had a biostar motherboard with the same problem. I realize the whole form factor is based around backward compatibility, but that's not the case 100% of the time. In my eyes, it shouldn't call itself a PCIe slot unless it fully supports everything the PCIe slot claims it can do. Need...

Re: Just upgraded ram..have a question

The pagefile is basically used when you run out of available RAM. Now that you've doubled the amount you have, I'd say you are in pretty good shape to just leave the pagefile set to auto. The only reason to make it as large as the amount of RAM you have is in the event your computer has a blue scree...

Re: I need help, (lost partition) :(

Best I can suggest is digging a little deeper with GetDataBack. It has a lot of features which unfortunately can be quite overwhelming, but they seem to all yield different results. If you have some patience you may be able to get something back. I wish I could be more helpful but it's been a long t...

Re: Constant running Hard Drive probelm

It's possible the drive has some bad sectors too... maybe try a chkdsk /r if disabling the indexing service doesn't improve the situation. I've seen bad drives grind away at nothing quite a few times.

Re: Battlefield 3

I don't understand why I need to create a friends list for BF3 when I already have a friends list in Origin... for trying to be the new Steam, they already failed. The game itself is very fun though. So even though Origin completely blows, the gameplay itself makes it worth it. Let's not forget all ...

Re: Which do I want, Plasma or LED/LCD?

LCD and LED panels have been improving significantly over the years, but honestly they are merely attempting to make their screen look like a plasma. Yes, plasmas are hot, thicker, and can suffer from image retention / burn in, but honestly if you want the best and most accurate picture, plasma is t...

A quick search on newegg for the board and you'll find someone else who is having the same issue. Asus has asked them to RMA the motherboard.

Re: Overclock this, or upgrade...?

Since your main concern is currently gaming, I would focus on a new graphics card. A new CPU wouldn't hurt, but a videocard is almost always going to give you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to gaming. And keep in mind, a new graphics card can likely transfer to a future build without a...

This sounds like a monitor problem. Trying the other ports on the monitor certainly couldn't hurt.

Re: defender.exe virus - anyone battle this one yet?

I've had really good luck using combofix from safemode to remove many flavors of this virus. Combofix isn't the most userfriendly app out there, but is sure gets the job done. I usually follow up with a malwarebytes scan to cleanup any remnants. If that doesn't get rid of it, nothing will. http://ww...

Re: Help needed

Corsair makes some nice power supplies, and they also make some nice RAM. If you're doing two videocards, I would probably get one of the beefier models. Not really sure what to suggest for a case. Coolermaster makes some decent ones.

Re: New Upgrade Issue

You said the fans spin up but you get no video. Normally when you turn on a computer, the fans fire up at 100% and then slow back down. Are your fans stuck at 100%? If so, my guess would be a motherboard issue (unfortunately). Granted, swapping back to the other videocard shouldn't be too hard just ...

Re: DTS? Dolby? THX? - I need a primer

The newest options are the TrueHD, DTS Master Audio, and Pro Logic II z. Odds are if you find a receiver that supports those three, it will have no problem supporting all the other formats. Now actually getting your receiver to decode TrueHD or DTS Master Audio is a different story. These audio form...

Re: AHCI and old 250-320Gig hard drives NOT working

If you are trying to use a SATA optical drive to install XP AND you have AHCI enabled, you will have nothing but problems. If you shut AHCI off and install XP it will work, but then if you turn it back on you won't be able to boot. Your only option would be to get an IDE optical drive (or USB) for t...

Re: need some help troubleshooting - I'm stumped

If the fan is having trouble spinning, then I would definitely get that replaced. Maybe the beep you are hearing is a warning from the motherboard either telling you A) the fan isn't working or B) the CPU is overheating. If you end up needing to take it to a shop, it may be cheaper to just build a n...

Good Luck

I remember when I bought a SATA DVD drive. I had two SATA controllers. 4 hard drives filled up one controller and were striped (nvraid), and so I had to put my SATA DVD drive on my Silicon Image controller. Guess what? During Windows install, nothing but Bluescreens. I had a friend with the exact sa...
