Re: So who here is actually mining?

I'm not in the field, but it seems to me that if you trust the security of the underlying building blocks (SHA2, merkle trees, etc.), downloading just the block headers + random blocks in the middle should suffice. A single user might not verify all blocks, but depending on your choices for randomn...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

But all these doom projections assume the system is going to continue unchanged. Ignoring sidechain ideas, even the basic axioms may change. You already don't strictly need to keep the whole blockchain stored locally on every node. Bandwidth might be solvable with probabalistic partial downloading....

Re: So who here is actually mining?

That was years ago before the rise of mobile and power consumption became such a priority, but I expect that just shifts the curve a bit without really changing the general shape of it. For the high-end consumer desktop, that's mostly just resulted in idle power becoming negligible while full power...

you were somehow confused into thinking I'm encouraging you to buy you are wrong. Don't be like Glorious. Re: So who here is actually mining?

This has happened before and I can understand the argument this is unique, I just disagree. I haven't gone really any further into it because at that point words were just repeatedly stuffed into my mouth and a guy wanted to argue with himself real, real bad. I never made that argument. What were y...

The exact image in my head: https://xkcd.com/386/ Yeah, hilarious. Here's the thing, this isn't some generic internet argument, is it? No, we're talking about real-world sums of money, aren't we? Re: So who here is actually mining?

I don't have aspirations of profit. That is my point. The amount isn't consequential to that notion, just to especially quash you pushing the thought that I think I will become rich when I know I won't (not this way at least). I am not holding them, I have them because you need them to experiment a...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

The reason LTC is surging is because Charlie Lee appeared on a few TV shows in the past few days to talk about LTC. This brought publicity and understanding of LTC to a large number of "new" crypto investors who likely had no idea what LTC even was before then. We're talking about people ...

LMAO Glorious my guy my entire "crypto" position is .1 BTC, .5 ETH, and 1 LTC. I have no aspirations of becoming rich by holding cyrptocurrency. Again, you're solely interested in attacking a made up straw man. But hey at least your vitality for attacking your own made up positions is hig...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

That's because the older, slow-to-adapt coins are the ones that are seeing the huge volume. There are actually other cryptos out there that have solutions to the scaling problem. Regardless, any ecosystem like this needs time to adjust, and the rampant adoption of crypto this year has just been too...

we'll figure out if it is actually practical as a way of moving money around later. Re: So who here is actually mining?

I thought you were talking about how the transaction times were the biggest issue, hence "everyone is talking about using LTC to move funds out/around the exchanges,". BTC mempool was ginormous just 4-5 days ago(over 200k transactions for like 24 hours at least), which is like quadruple w...

Re: Upgrading to CoffeeLake, or should I wait ?

The vanilla 8700 has been perpetually out of stock everywhere and the 8700K has been hovering just under $500 since launch. Add a cooler, add a board, hope for a discount and you're still looking at $600 ballpark figure. I just got a i7-8700k from newegg like 2 weeks ago. It's ~400 USD on newegg.co...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

This isn't particularly shocking. LTC from the start has been pitched as silver to BTC's gold and I do believe anyone whose been looking at it for awhile saw this day coming. As for whether its good or bad that depends on perspective and time frame. Yes, incoherently: Bimetallism was about using si...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Any TR members who mined Litecoin a few years ago should REALLY look hard for their Litecoin wallets. Litecoin is at $360 right now. Yes, but did you ever wonder why? If you read the various exchange forums/subreddits it's obvious: everyone is talking about using LTC to move funds out/around the ex...

Re: Nicehash just lost 4,736.42642789 BTC / $61,253,030.31 USD

Since every transaction just adds to the blockchain moving the stolen funds around a dozen times seems rather futile. You mix them with other plausibly legitimate bitcoins in a bunch of convoluted transactions involving thousands of address. Ultimately traceable? Sure, in sense. Extremely difficult...

I'd put myself in this same boat. I'm simply disinterested. I watch very little sports, but I understand that a lot of people really enjoy it as a form of entertainment, and that's fine. Heh, that was a bit of obscure word play. Uninterested can be more precisely understood to mean "indifferen...

Let see, haven't most geeky and nerdy types been mocked and picked on for being geeky or nerdy by those who are into sports? No. And if you have, letting it define you turns into self-victimization.
