Re: Old M478A Pro SB_LED flashing.

Hi folks this is just a courtest note to thank you for your advice a few weeks back. I took the PSU back and they refunded my money and seemed genuinely surprised that the PSU didn't work. I ordered a Antec 380W PSU from ebay for $10 less and I'm typing on my machine as we speak. It was a great thin...

Re: Old M478A Pro SB_LED flashing.

My brother in law and I discovered that the new power supply does not provide -5V on Pin 20 (the white lead). The lead is not present. Is it likely that this is the problem? Modern-ish (as in made in the past 10+ years) motherboards don't use the -5V rail. While your motherboard is old, it isn't th...

Re: Old M478A Pro SB_LED flashing.

[quote="DPete27"]I hate to say it (because I agree it's probably the PSU to blame), but you might want to think about an upgrade. Even something like a G4560 for A$90 , mobo w/ 4 RAM slots for A$105 , and 8GB RAM for A$170 is going to blow that old system out of the water. [\quote] I had c...

I pulled my GC, attached the monitor to the onboard DVI port, unplugged everything except the PWR button header and a PS2 keyboard and it posted.

I am trying to attach an image here.

Old M478A Pro SB_LED flashing.

Hi All Wow.. I haven't logged in here for years. But it was the second place I'm trying after ASUS support seems oddly tied down. A few kids, changing jobs, and a very stable PC for the longest time (8 years) have meant i didn't keep up my TR appearances. How is everyone? So remember that stable PC ...

Re: Going back to XP

Find new software, XP really sucks in pretty much every day-to-day way. It's a MASSIVE change in performance. Whatever software you're using, find something else, it beats using a DECADE old OS. Been using XP on my work machine since 2004. Why would i go and find a new version of some software that...

Thanks for having this conversation guys. I was having the exact same problem but didn't realise. I bought a Dell XPS xxxx with a 6670. No DisplayPort, but a DVI, VGA and HDMI. Any two screens would work but I couldn't never get the third up simultaneously. I read the bit about needing to use Displa...

If not, then I definitely missed some important information about why the 5870 is potentially better than the 6870. please explain.

So long story short, "wide links = yes" doesn't work anymore since some version of Samba, unless "unix extensions = no" is declared as well. Woot mate (Aussie for Woot!).. axeman, you are the biggest baddest Linux guru!! I read up on some angry users trying to resolve their samb...

Re: Samba setup to follow symlinks

That should work, but there is something at work here that has to do with a security flaw in Samba, try this: follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes unix extensions = no That's what I have. The "wide links" parameter allows accessing files outside the structure already shared with samba. ...

Samba setup to follow symlinks

Hi everyone got a Samba issue here. I have been using SWAT and the builtin SuSE 11.1 Samba setup (via yast) to get my Samba shares working. I did find something odd: it appears that you're double-checking the user/pw through mysql *after* they authenticated? Isn't it redundant, or am I missing something? perhaps $db_username and $db_password are a fixed set (maybe root and ??? ) that will let the script access mysql to check the userna...

http://www.sc2mod.com/board/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=77, the memory limit for scripts is no secret. It really puts a damper on the editor's potential. The "fix" will likely require a "fee" like the other extra features that Blizzard-Activision kept hinting at. This stu...

Trade-off: 1 pillow vs 2 pillows on a single-sized bed. 1 pillow is not enough to cover the entire length of the mattress which causes me to wake up with my head flat on the mattress. Two pillows however, are far too much for the mattress and you are stuck with this obnoxious overlapped hill of pil...

hey people I let my beard grow for 10 days or so, and decided that instead of wasting all that hard-work, I'd just shave off the edges and call it an intentional beard. What does a Fluke multimeter do for $200 that a standard multimeter doesn't do for $10-$20? This is a genuine question, given the dramatic difference in cost between Fluke and everything else. It's a very hard point to argue that its worth the money. Certainly they are better in some ways. I haven'...

I'd have a pretty hard time getting excited about a GTX 480. It uses more power under load than a 5970 (although given the price, it's not like I want a 5970 either). It seems Nvidia is basically focusing on HPC applications, I'd like to hear how a gamer could justify a Fermi without being a fanboy...
