Re: Something's different...

I haven't posted in a long time, but I was originally brought into the site back in 2007 by this exact article: https://techreport.com/review/12772/weighing-the-value-of-todays-processors/ I still remember driving around on a golf cart at my job on a golf course going through my head over and over w...

Remote Mac Backup

I currently back up my MacbookPro with Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/). The program recently changed from freeware to a commercial product, and I want to stay with it since it does exactly what I want, make a bootable copy of my drive. My thought process is that if I happened to drop my...

Re: Planning Next Monitor Setup

Thanks for all the input!

The displays would most likely be used for non-gaming activities until I upgrade my PC next year when Haswell is released, and I'll be getting a new video card that can drive everything.

Planning Next Monitor Setup

About a year ago my Dell 2407WFP-HC monitor fell off a table and the screen cracked; that was the end of it's life. So in the meantime I bought a cheap $120 21 inch display to get me through the next year or so. It isn't an IPS panel though, and I've noticed that it just isn't going to last as a pri...

Are you able to backup multiple computers via Crashplan to one PC? I was not able to see anything the last time I checked. I would want to backup each computer to separate backup drives on the host PC.

Retiring Current Folding Farm After Milestone

I made it a goal when I decided to start folding years ago that I wanted to get to 10,000,000 points. Well, I finally was able to hit it last week! I've decided to retire the two PCs still currently running F@H, one reason being the age of the hardware, a 8800GT and 8800GTS running nonstop for close...

Currently I am using SyncToy 2.1 from Microsoft to backup files to another computer: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15155 It's exactly what I want and works with Windows 7. On the Mac side (I have a MBP 13) I use Carbon Copy Cloner onto an external drive...but that's another...

Remote Backup Storage Solution

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of setting up some remote storage for my PC. I have a 2TB "Archive" drive that contains old photos, videos, etc. that I want to have backed up at an offsite location 80 miles away. All I need to happen is for the remote device to make an identical copy of th...

Old Apple Floppy Question!

Hey everyone, I've been working to transfer about 500 Mac-formatted floppy disks to my PC in an effort to archive about 20 year's worth of my college's newspaper backup. I've passed the 400 mark using MacDrive on Windows 7, but there seem to be a stack of around 100 that will not seem to work. Some ...

Re: No iPod Classic? No iPod Shuffle?

This looks like another Apple attempt to move ahead before anyone else and try to ease consumers into the cloud for listening to music. That being said, I still think that there should be an ipod classic for consumers who really do have a gigantic music collection that they want to bring around with...

Re: YARGH! Streaks! Yucky, Ugly Streaks!

I've used 70% rubbing alcohol diluted with some water before. If you want to go the paper towel route, buy the cheapest possible ones (like the store brand). Some of the more expensive ones contain small amounts of fabric softener or are scented, and this will end up on your screen. Or a cheap squee...

Re: Upgrading to Lion?

On another note, I decided to make the upgrade to 8GB of RAM since it is so darn cheap right now ($52.99). I'm planning to use Photoshop and InDesign more this fall/spring, so I wanted to give myself some more room to work with. And with the SSD upgrade I'll finish all the updates I plan to make wit...

Re: Upgrading to Lion?

Personally I love my 120GB 320 series. The "avoid them like the plague" thing is super-duper overrated. It's not OCZ here. The problem has to do with unexpectedly power cycling them repeatedly. edit: the only thing that's super important here is to realize that TRIM is only supported on d...

Re: Upgrading to Lion?

In terms of an SSD, I'm thinking of going with the Intel 320 120GB SSD and adding in the opti-bay so I'll have the extra storage. Any reasons why I should switch to a different SSD?

Looking for point-and-shoot camera suggestions

I am looking for a digital point-and-shoot camera for a family member. The requirements are pretty simple: thin, easy to use (will most likely never switch from auto mode), and between $100-$300. Any suggestions, good or bad, from recent camera purchases? Since I will not be using the camera, things...

The cover up is always worse than the crime. If Tressel would have disciplined the athletes when he found out about the memoribilia/tattoo incident, none of this would have happened. I can't see the NCAA blowing up over this is Tressel took the right measures.
