GTX 780 is worth 120,000 PPD folding. Overclocked, it can push 150-170,000 PPD.

Hey Fuzzhead... Do you mind giving me some info on the farm required to generate 300k PPD?

I'm barely getting 50k PPD with 3x SMP clients: i7-920, i7-2600K and 970X. I'm doing something wrong.

I wonder if the core count spoofing trick is worth doing, even though it's not "authorized"? If your machine can process the WU in the allotted time, then thats all that should matter. 6HTx4.0Ghz = 36Ghz. 2CPUx 8x 2.0Ghz is 16 cores, but still only 32Ghz.

Gentlemen, I need some advice. My FAH farm has taken a hit last year with multiple machine failures. The remaining machines have been getting low PPD for months now. I know BIGADV is not available for < 8 cores on Windows, but still the PPD seems very low compared to others with 2600K's and 970's. 3...

68 degrees is nothing for a CPU.

I've got a 2600K running at 4.5Ghz and it's running 24x7 in the mid-60's which is very cool IMO. I've got another i7 950 running at 3.9Ghz and it's been running in the mid 80's on all cores 24x7 for a year. These things can take a beating.

Fuzzhead, Now your REALLY burning the FAH! Wow! What did you add to your farm to get that impressive points boost?

I just added a 2600K @ 4.45Ghz which is good for 40k PPD on a P6900 AND it runs very cool. We'll see what AMD pulls out of the hat with a true 8core.

Those initially high GTS450 PPD seemed to only apply to the initial beta WU's. These things deliver 8-9000PPD. On sandybridge OCing, you need to get the K-unlocked multiplier. As mentioned, a i7 running ~4Ghz on 8 "cores" is good for ~30k PPD. My initial tinkering got a stable 4.45Ghz on a...

Yes, there is probably a 20% hit on older cards when you run GPU3.

I run a GTX460 on a i7 920 and a GTS 450 on a i7 920 that run BIGADV. I set SMP priority to low, and GPU to high without allocating a dedicated core to GPU. GPU3 use of the CPU is 2-3% from what I've observed.

If Meadows's 100-110W is accurate, that's fairly much. Too bad you didn't have a Kill-A-Watt or similar to test the GTS 450 vs. your old 9800GX2. 9800GX2: 200Watts, Hot 80C, loud, $400 = 10000PPD GTS450: 110Watts, Cool 55C, quiet, $130= 12000PPD That's huge Progress IMO. Looks like a pretty impressive deal. I'll have to look into this, with power usage being a key datum. Unless you are running 8+ Cores (which you aren't with an X6), you can run Win SMP just as efficiently as Linux VM SMP. Also, the WIn SMP client takes almost no RAM compared to a VM. That said, if you are still going to run Ubuntu, then there are some known issues with 10.04: http://techreport.com/f...

I'm getting ~14k PPD out of 3.7GHZ under Windows -SMP 8. Memory use isn't much under windows: <500mb. If you have Windows 64Bit with 6Gb RAM and have some interest in playing with software: Run folding Linux under VMWare. Same processor will give you ~24k PPD running -BIGADV. Definitely worth it: Run the SMP client with the flag '-smp 8' to use all 8 threads. Hyperthreading should be left on in the bios. Processor should be easy to overclock to 3.6-3.8Ghz.

Even if you specify -BIGADV, you won't get BIGADV Work units assigned to you unless your system is reporting 8+ cores. 6 core AMD's won't qualify.
