Re: I love printing in Windows

Folks, stop using HP and Epson printers. Their software is an absolute mess, specially if they do processing in the host. In my experience, Canon has the best written drivers (although they may fail)

Use Ceramique and relax. Very good performance, dries more slowly and no electrical worries ;)

Re: Free Imaging Software - does it exist?

Anyone know of any free software? - If you own Seagate or Maxtor hard drives, you can get Acronis 10 for free. - Drive Image XML ( PC Mag review ). You need to build a BartPE/UBCD4Win disk to restore the active/boot partition without slaving your disk to a machine which has DIXML installed. - Parti...

Antivir free has the highest detection rates of all free AVs with real-time scanner. However, the update servers on the free versions can be painfully slow.

Re: Unable to remove 'hidden' virus/trojan/worn after wipeing dr

RootkitRevealer may be of some help here. RkR is outdated technology. It's blind to moderm rootkits. The best specialized anti-rootkit tools are GMER, Rootkit Unhooker (no longer on the web, if you want a copy, PM me) and IceSword . Other good tools are Dr. Web CureIt , SUPERAntiSpyware and Prevx C...

Yes, it's quite possible that you're been reinfecting yourself with a removable drive or something in your network.

Re: Cannot enable native SATA mode, Help!

I went though the Nforce 1, 2,3 and 4. During these times I put the drives in IDE mode. Installed the Forceware drivers and changed the BIOS settings to ACHI and everything was fine. I had the NCQ options and all that good stuff. NVIDIA SATA controllers aren't AHCI compatible. They use their own te...

Re: Unable to remove 'hidden' virus/trojan/worn after wipeing dr

Can a virus/trojan/malware/worm etc. reside; 1. In a motherboards Bios, 2. In a hard drive after one wipes the drive with zeros'? 1- NO. Only PoC has been made to infect CMOS and survive there. 2- NO if the wipe is correctly performed. I would suggest to boot a BartPE disk (created in a known clean...

Re: How many SATA ports should a mobo have?

4 should be the minimum. 6 is fine for most users, including enthusiasts. 8 is right for the most extreme configurations (2 ODD, 2 or 3 internal HDDs, 1 spare port or removable bay and 1 eSATA) All SATA ports should hang off the SB and eSATA should be implemented a la Gigabyte Rather than saddling u...

Re: Reasonably priced lower wattage modular PSUs?

OTOH, nowadays you can buy a quality 500 W PSU for the price you had to pay for a quality 350 W PSU not many years ago. PSU companies need >$ 150 SKUs to keep their margins. Yesterday, this market niche was occupied by 500 W PSUs (remember when the OCZ PowerStream 520 W came out). Today, it's occupi...

Profitability. They prefer to sell oversized PSUs because they are more expensive and thus the margins are wider.
Today, a high-end PSU means >650 W. <400 W is too low-end.

Yeah, that's pretty retarded. I'd say you've got two options here: 1. Uninstall Acrobat Pro, and reinstall the free reader. -or- 2. Install Foxit. Two more choices: - PDF-XChange Viewer . My personal favourite. It has a portable version and an installable version. - Sumatra PDF . Open Source and st...

Re: Malware infection vectors

Then, you will agree that, besides macro viruses (almost inexistent nowadays), script viruses (more or less manageable by SRP), most malware are executable files which are real easy to deal with. This scenario isn't going to change with malware being profit-driven. Web-based threats (i.e. threats ru...
