Re: I-40 Road Trip

I grew up in SC and moved to Idaho during college. I made that trip in 3 days. I would consider that the bare minimum time as I had no time to stop other than sleeping. To me, one of the best parts about I-40 was Tennessee. That state is crazy, it just goes on forever. It's really cool too, all the ...

Re: Have Samsung Captivate (AT&T, Android), will hack.

From the home screen, hit the Menu button -> Settings -> Application Management -> Allow Installation of Off-Market Apps. This will let you use your phone as your testbed for your developed apps. IIRC ATT doesn't allow sideloading of apps through this method. I don't think that checkbox is even the...

Re: Have Samsung Captivate (AT&T, Android), will hack.

At the expense of sounding like a jerk... does ATT have a return policy? There are much better Android phones coming out for ATT very soon. The Captivate isn't that good of a phone when you consider the currently available Android phones on Verzion. It is an even lesser phone when you compare it to ...

Re: Best Online (offsite) Backup solution?

I think we are going to face this issue at my office this coming year. I want to move away from tape based backups. My main problem with them is that they are a hassle to keep up with. I like that online backup services only backup your changes and this limits the backup sizes significantly, unlike ...

Re: HDMI length

We had some electricians come wire up the conference room for HDMI a few months ago. It was probably 30-50 feet of HDMI cable. They used a signal booster of some sort. It basically plugged in somewhere along the stretch of cable and was electrically powered.

It was expensive as hell though.

Re: resolution out of range, but its correct

One of our servers here at work always does this. On some reboots it will randomly say the display is out of range, when no display or display settings have been changed. It is a pain in the ass and the only way to make it be "in range" is to restart the server. Usually I just remote to th...

Re: Midsize Car Suggestions: VW GTI vs...?

Car seats in the back seat are another issue for that car though.... As in child seats? What's the problem? It'd be good to know these things before pulling the trigger. Rear facing seats can be particularly hard to fit without moving the front seats up a significant amount. We have a few "lar...

Re: Midsize Car Suggestions: VW GTI vs...?

I've driven both the Mazdaspeed6 & Legacy GT. They are both fun cars, but I would probably go with the GT for reliability sake. You can find a lot of posts on the internet regarding the Mazda DISI turbo engine. I semi-doubt its long-term reliability, and there are many people on forums who have ...

Re: TV for a monitor?

I think viewing distance is the biggest deal when it comes to using a TV as a monitor... or as a TV. If you get too close you can physically see the individual pixels in a lot of TVs. Just think of it as pixels per inch. The more pixels you can cram in a given inch the "finer" the picture ...

Newegg won't ship internationally anyway last I knew. So it wouldn't matter?

Your best bet is to have friends/family in the US by it and send it to you.

Re: Car wrecker in USA who will ship internationally?

Try car-part.com

You can search for what you are looking for and then it will bring up the junkyards that have it. Then you can call/email them to ask if they ship internationally. I come up with 40+ 6.8l V10s from a quick search.

Re: 'Downgrade' from 64 bit Windows 7 to 32 bit?

Do you have W7 pro? If so and you have hardware virtualization capable hardware then try out XP mode.

No guarantees it will work, but that's my best guess rather than completely reinstalling.

Re: Xbox 360 new HD nonsense

I did not think about game saves, etc. This is the problem. The "Starter Kit" is the only HDD MS appears to be selling right now. Thus I can't possibly be the only person who bought/got one and found themselves in this situation. And then MS is like "send us even more money!" No,...

IIRC the transfer cable only comes with the 120GB drive if you buy it separately. But maybe that was only for a limited time and now you have to buy it no matter what. TBH I can understand the frustration... but assuming you are replacing a 20GB premium HD whats the big deal? I imagine you don't hav...

We use Symantec here for about 70 computers, their corporate AV is top notch. Their management software is excellent too.

I don't know the actual pricing though or if they are more/less expensive than the competition for only a few computers.

ZS3 is out, too expensive vetoed by wife. So I think it is down to the Panasonic ZR1, ZS1 or the Fujifilm FX70EXR. Re: Got the WRX! Now some questions...

You can take the intake resonator box out of the front fender as well for free. You'll start to hear the motor a bit more, and hear the bypass valve discharge. That with the downpipe will make it sound a bit meaner without being obtuse. You'll start to pick up the turbo when it spins up (hissing). ...

Not sure where you are, but if you are in the snow belt, get some proper snow tyres for it. The all-seasons my 05 2.5RS wagon came with were fine until the rears would suddenly let go in the middle of a corner, requiring power on 4 wheel drift to avoid a spin. It was lots of fun but not the safest ...

Of the 3 new cars we have owned, Subaru is the only car that specifically stated a "break in period" and procedures in the owner's manual. I would read it and go from there. If I remember correctly, at least in the N/A Subaru 2.5l they recommended you not use Synthetic for ~10k miles maybe...
