Re: BALDUR'S GATE III

Great news :D but the big question is, should those, that did not play the first and second Baldur's Gate (myself included) play them before the third one comes out? To be fair these games are pretty old and I heard, can be difficult to get into. They are widely regarded as some of the best, if not...

It didn't read that badly to me IMO. Some of the comments in that news post seem pretty hypersensitive and hostile.

Re: Something's different...

FYI, John is buying some SUPER cards to send to Zak for his Navi review. That simply would not be happening under different circumstances. Give it a chance, that's all I'm doing. That's another good sign IMO. People might not like the SEO strategy and what might be produced as a result of it, but a...

OMG I just came across a video of 'him' speaking......makes my skin crawl. This whole "influencer" movement, mantra, of whatever you want to call it is nothing short of selfish, egotistical, and arrogant if not outright ego maniacal! /sigh.. :-? I watched the first half of this video earl...

Re: Something's different...

Fish, do you have a sense of what other websites/investments John Rampton and John Hall have made/purchased? I get the sense that this site is probably one asset in a very diverse portfolio, and I think the level of attention we are demanding from them may not match their own priorities.

Re: Something's different...

If one were to fantasize about what a volunteer "review" would entail, would it be more viable for one person to just run the tests and then send the data to another person who then does the writeup? Writing is just as hard, if not more difficult, than the actual testing itself, and I ima...

Re: Something's different...

Even with Mechanical Turk, the setup, testing, and analysis take serious time. I got to see the sausage made, and this is a 100% true fact. You want to test 12 CPUs? You're building a minimum of four machines and waiting a few hours (it took around 4 hours on my PC) for it to turn out results. That...

Re: Something's different...

If, at some point, we could get a rough idea of the scale of the cost of running the site as it was/is, that would be invaluable. If subs carried a few percent, are we talking $50k a year total? $200k? I understand it probably can't be posted exactly, but I think it's one of the problems with this ...

I genuinely hate to say it, and I mean no rudeness/ill will whatsoever, but I'm out if this is to be the new UI/design for any length of time. I know a lot changes have gone on behind the scenes over the years, and especially recently, but this feels very much like "nail in the coffin" ki...

I ride my bicycle every day and the statistics say that it is one of the most dangerous ways of traveling. Luckily we have bicycle paths almost everywhere around here so I probably won't get killed while riding it, but the risk of a non-fatal injury is still quite high. This is something that I cho...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

For 100k miles, most cars only need the occasional oil change and maybe a fluid top-off. At 150k miles, your maintenance item is spark-plugs. The #1 maintenance cost is going to be your tires for the first 5 years of life, followed by your brakes. (And sure, ICE cars don't have regenerative braking...

Would a pivot in the content TR publishes be a potential strategy? I thought the Starlink article was quite good, and I think there is a greater appetite for tech/"pop science" content compared to dedicated hardware reviews. The watercooling Vive article is also pretty unique/interesting, ...

Well to each their own, but I loved Pillars if Eternity, enjoyed its story and characters much more than Divinity's. I don't mind spending $15 ($20 if you don't own the HD version) just for the improved audio and visual aspects. Plus there will be Definitive Edition specific civs and a new campaign. Hopefully there will be some under the hood improvements as well. To me the price is commensurate with the whats bei...

Super stoked to hear the news, but I also am fully expecting this to be a Baldur's Gate "in name only" title. All the new attempts at recreating the isometric + dialogue magic of Baldur's Gate have fallen flat IMO (looking at you Pillar's of Eternity). I'm excited to see what Larian does w...

Screw my generation, we're doing it wrong. Yeah these deep winter freezes are exactly the reason why I'm glad to no longer be living in WI. Then again, there's definitely a subculture of folks in WI/MN who live, and even thrive, for this kind of weather. Case in point:
