Re: Something's different...

It's just sad that TR has lost faith in the idea that quality content can still sell. This ideology loss is in fact the most disappointing thing about the handover. It wasn't selling. At least, not well enough to keep the lights on. That's why the site got sold. Exactly what JohnC said. I lov...

Re: Something's different...

Looks like everybody else noticed this a month before and nothing's been done about it. It really was a pity, TR was with me since the Athlon XP days. I'm glad I got to interact with you guys, see you perhaps on the arch linux forums or in a crypto forum somewhere, if you use the same nick as here I...

Re: Something's different...

I really don't appreciate these brainless '3 top ways' article types that Renee has been putting out, and it's especially telling that she disables comments for all of these. I don't think any business/IT executive worth his salt even pays attention to these kinds of articles anyway. I frequent lots...

Re: I'm responsible for aepp-sdk-go - need opinions on usability vs functionality

A difference in feature set can be understandable, but I don't see a reason for the options to have different names or behave differently. Depending on the target platforms/scenarios, wouldn't it would make sense for the secondary interfaces (JS/Py) to just be frontends/bridges to the main/native p...

Re: I'm responsible for aepp-sdk-go - need opinions on usability vs functionality

5. What would be a usability problem? A difference in feature set? Well right now there is a difference in feature set, as well as differences in subcommand names, where some functionality is etc, because we don't have a testing framework to ensure that all the CLIs adhere to a common standard (I t...

I'm responsible for aepp-sdk-go - need opinions on usability vs functionality

Hey everybody, as you can tell by my post count I've been lurking a long while. I think the forum is still full of mature people and good programmers though, so I thought it would be good to post my question here. I'm now responsible for aeternity's Go SDK, https://github.com/aeternity/aepp-sdk-go ....

Re: Something's different...

Has there been any talk about generating revenue through means other than advertising? Obviously bugs are bad for business, but trying to double down on what didn't work before I think would be much more concerning than any of the temporary problems that have come about through this migration. Pers...

Re: Something's different...

Hi, haven't been around the forums much lately, but I still check the site everyday. The new design does not use space efficiently and eliminates what made TR unique. Also it is hard to see what is a significant article (Ryzen review) vs a simple news post. I acknowledge that going to Wordpress to l...

Need advice on good coding conventions

Recently I've been working on a rather complex project, the Quantum Resistant Ledger, and I find myself asking questions like these really often: 1. Should I serialize the data used in a class before passing it down to the database to save, or should I let the database serialize the object, so that ...

Re: Help choosing a new router

I was also looking for a router - and I bought a Mikrotik hAP ac2. The thing that sold me on it was the fact that I could bond two Ethernet ports together to create a 2Gbps connection, it had lots of options for features I had never even thought of, and it's only 60EURs. Just received it today, gott...

Unlike sound fidelity, there will always be a need for more visual fidelity - and GPUs have area and thermal requirements that sound cards never had. GPUs are around to stay.

That's okay, I'll get them back soon enough.

His Psychology category is also really interesting, as well as his PUA/inner alpha male articles. Never thought I'd read an article about that from a hacker!

If my public key is public, then isn't confidentiality only one way?

If I want to login via SSH, I place my public key on the server. When the server wants to communicate with me, it encrypts with the public key, so only I can decrypt with the private key. But since my public key is out there - if anybody knows it, then they can theoretically decrypt the commands tha...

Is freelancing supposed to be this hard or do I just suck?

I'm starting out as a freelance software developer, and I'm finding many things quite intimidating. For example, I go on Upwork to look for jobs and I find that I have to pass on most of the jobs because I can't guarantee that it'll take X hours and Y dollars. Of course, given enough time I know I c...

Re: How to use callbacks?

Callbacks (in any language, not just JavaScript) are typically used when you're dealing with an asynchronous event that you DON'T want to wait on. The fact that you're encountering this issue in the first place may be an indication that you need to re-think your overall approach to whatever it is y...

I'm starting out in Javascript and I quickly ran into the problem of callbacks. Re: What's it like to backup with tapes?

The drives aren't that expensive. You can get an LTO-3 drive for 100-150EUR, and LTO-4 for 300-350. Of course you might have to pay 50 on top for the SCSI/SAS controller. But it looks like I can crossflash my LG BH10LS30 to a WH12LS39 so I can burn M-Discs now 8) Well thanks a lot folks, after some ...

What's it like to backup with tapes?

I've been looking at some LTO drives for a possible personal backup solution recently, since a few old DVD+R discs have gotten corrupt near the edges (they were NOT no-name brands, Verbatim, Maxell) and I doubt that Blu-ray will be any better in that regard. But I don't know what it's like to backup...
