Re: Sports heroes

Without a doubt, my favorite athlete of all time was/is Bo Jackson. NFL statistics might not show it, but he was the greatest running back of all time. What incredible speed and strength rolled into a single package. BTW, "hero" is not a term I associate with sports figures or celebrities.

Re: Sports heroes

Growing up in rural north FL neither of my parents were huge sports fans but my mother would get into baseball during the world series time and watch it on TV each year. I never had patience to sit and watch it on screen. My mom later told me when she was younger she went to a Braves game and saw H...

Re: What are you playing right now?

My family and I are playing a card game called Hand and Foot. It uses 6 decks of playing cards and typically is a 4 person game with 2 two-person teams. Great family fun, and gets us away from our cell phones, TV's, and computers.

I'd like to think that a decent shop would NOT install 8gb of ram into a system running a 32-bit operating system.

The crime is that there wasn't a DP cable in the box. That is an unimaginably dumb move by Asus.

Actually, mine came with a DP cable in the box, it's just not long enough for my needs. I'm only using HDMI because I was already using it with my previous monitor.

Re: Displayport cable

Another reason for not using HDMI is that G-Sync only works with DisplayPort. It would be a massive waste to get a nice monitor like the PG279G (I have the same one) and then not using G-Sync. I think that any DP cable should work as most are 1.2 or higher. I just got some random cheap one and it w...

I have a GTX1070 with Displayport 1.4 as well as HDMI. Just bought a new Asus ROG Swift PG279G monitor. 2560x1440 with G-Sync. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236660&cm_re=asus_pg279q_rog_swift-_-24-236-660-_-Product I'm thinking that it won't do 2560x1440 through HDMI,...

All great suggestions above.

If you're going with the MX300 SSD, then get the M.2 version. It saves space and makes the build a little cleaner.

Highly recommend the Cryorig H7 cooler.

I've always enjoyed the Wolfenstein series games ever since the DOS days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdcnQISuF_Y It was ID's predecessor to DOOM and pretty much jump started all the 3D first-person shooter style games. My area will have 99% eclipse. I can drive south about 30 miles for 100% but all indications are that traffic will be gridlock everywhere. The 100 is pretty good. There are moments that are sorta pfffft. Billions (Showtime). Really good, but moves fast. I usually watch each episode twice to make sure I don't miss anything. Homeland (Showtime). This was a great show the first few seasons. This latest season is terrible and unwatchable. ...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

Had a Corsair Obsidian 650D with a Corsair AX750 psu.. Really liked the case features, but it's huge. The front intake fan is 200mm and is prone to making noise. Also had to replace the top exhaust fan because of noise issues. Beyond that, it's a great case, and the AX750 is top notch. Just passed i...

Re: What to do with old PC?

Yeah, backup/media server is probably a good choice. If you're interested in networking you could get a cheap ethernet card and turn it into a router. CPU-wise it'd probably do fine as an HTPC also, but you might want to get a cheap GPU for it if you decide to go that route. Along with the GTX275, ...

Media server is a good route. Depending on the age of the kids you could also use it as an unnetworked secured backup box for holding onto all of their photos and homework in case they want to recover those in a decade from now. The only issue you are dealing with running an old machine this way is...
