Re: memory requirements for Macbook Pro for running fusion

I want to buy an overpriced macbook pro. I am debating between 8GB or 16GB. Is it worth the extra $$ to get the 16GB ram or am I better of spending $$$ to get the Core I7 rather than I5? I generally like to keep a lot of windows open. -lots of chrome tabs -word docs -excel docs -evernote -VMware Fu...

You're going to get a few types of responses. They will be as follows. "Spend more money and get Ubiquiti stuff" - https://www.ubnt.com/ "Get an Asus RTXXXXAC or Netgear R7000 or R7800" "Here, check out smallnetbuilder.com" - https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/ All of the...

Re: What are REAL consumer CPUs?

OK after hearing all about AMD and Intel's new "Threadripper" and Core i9 CPUs along with their price tags, I'm beginning to wonder what exactly is a consumer CPU? Don't get wrong, I love having high end hardware but I would have to be making money with it to consider buying what are now ...

Re: Intel Core i7 2600 overheating while playing.

If all you're worried about is the temperature, don't be. 80-85C is perfectly healthy. These chips will live happily in the 90+C range for many years without any ill effects. That being said, crack the case and check the CPU fan, and check the PSU fan and the vents to atmosphere. likely as JaE has ...

I found in a double re-install that my key i used on my media box will not work on anything but the media box now. I kind of expected it which is why is deliberately swapped them in the reinstall test. That can be solved with a call to Microsoft. Pain, but only about half an hour of it. ^ yup! Conf...

Re: Dell Hates AMD?

product life cycles for CPUs are short enough that whether the company is still around 2 years down the road is not super-critical I disagree with this. I think it makes it more critical when you're a company the size of Dell/HPE/Lenovo/etc. They are looking that far ahead at their own product life...

Re: W10 still able to be activated by W7 retail key!

I wonder if this is limited to retail keys... I have a couple of unused OEM keys. Yes indeed, i have about a dozen W7 OEM keys and so far I'm 6 for 6 on my list. The only caveat is make sure to keep track of which OEM key you installed to which machine. I found in a double re-install that my key i ...

Saw someone mention that they were able to activate W10 with a W7 retail key a week ago. So I tried mine in a VM and it worked! It did not accept it at installation but did after W10 was installed. Now I just hope I will be able to install the "retail" W10 in my next computer. Your welcom...

Not looking to debate it, but I would personally NEVER devote large amounts of my company's product lines or quality bin parts to a company who has been gushing blood for the better part of a DECADE. If the intel counterparts are slightly more expensive, I'd go with them EVERY time because I know:: ...

Re: Upgrading from an i5-4590

We are missing a chunk of this story that is pretty important. It is clear gaming is a priority, but we do not see a mention of gaming resolution. Bumping up to a possible 4.6ghz i7of any variety with a 970 may not improve anything, and the same can be said for Ryzen. I am wondering if you are suffe...

Re: Intel Licensing AMD GPU Tech

This has 'Custom Design' wins written all over it.  Intel has stated they want  to get into the custom package and custom silicon boutique business because AMD is making some margins at it.  I imagine this is more or less them trying to 'keep a client' and keep Nvidia out of their partnership with a...

For the longest time, it was advised a quad core CPU was more than enough. However comparing my 3DMark Firestrike or Timespy score to others, especially those with Haswell-E i7 5820K CPUs or better, it seems my system is painfully CPU limited despite overclocking my Skylake i5 to 4.4GHz and GTX 108...

Re: RAM not working at advertised speeds

It is single sided for the old RAM versus dual sided for the new. That is almost certainly the key issue. The additional load on the memory bus, combined with the fact that the memory controller is being pushed way beyond spec, are probably conspiring to put 3200 out of reach. Indeed.  This could b...
