Re: i7 2600K based high end gaming machine

Get the fastest GTX580 you can find (MSI Lightning edition, w/ 3GB memory). FWIW, I put together just such a rig ^ myself a couple months back, with the same thought: Keep the potential of adding SLI if there proved a need for it. But don't add it unless you can prove the need or the benefits. As of...

Re: Post your jokes here!

Blond joke: This stunning blond is driving just a little too fast to be legal one day...when she see's the flashing lights of a patrol-motorcycle coming up fast in her rear view mirror. "Oh no! The police!" So she pulls over to the side of the road and fixes her makeup carefully as she wat...

Lawyer joke:

Q: What's the difference between a catfish and a lawyer?

A: One's an evil, bottom-dwelling scum-sucker...

...and the other is a fish. :D

Re: Bathurst 1000

Should any of you OTHER "PC gearheads" wish to drive PC simulations of these very same Aussie V8 Supercars, they ARE available at no cost (and an accurate version of the Bathurst track too)...in at least one sim/program called "rFactor." At least one of the mods has been produced...

Re: NBA cancels first 2 weeks of season... and I don't care

I think I'm probably something of an odd man out here (I stand 6-4 1/2" with 38" arms and am possessed of a reasonable level of basketball talent), at least in the sense that I've played the game decently over the years (although just "pickup") and have been matched up against se...

Re: Ten years later: Where were you when you first heard?

I saw it live, having turned on the TV just moments before. I was watching NBC (way back when it was a REAL, reliable, news channel)...and I think it might have been Bryant Gumble who was narrating as the second plane approached and then destroyed the second tower. I drove into Denver shortly therea...

Re: 3D Gaming Setup Questions

Followup to previous: Engineer...Your numbers regarding FOV of the different monitor solutions show you do, indeed, understand the concept of FOV (but you're an engineer, so perhaps thats to be expected). One thing that can slip through the cracks re 3D too though is this: Particularly if you are an...

Re: 3D Gaming Setup Questions

You are one of the (fairly rare still) people who start out in a 3D thread like this by saying how much you've actually enjoyed the 3D experience--via Blue Ray 3D movies, in your case--and I'm simply pointing out that it may BE because you've seen them on that (presumably large screen/large format) ...

Re: 3D Gaming Setup Questions

I opined in another thread that having a "life-size" (or very near life-size) image is critically important when using 3D...if you want the experience that you are really seeing things around you as you normally do every waking day, that is. So with that in mind, I'd suggest you consider u...

Re: nVidia 3d vision, it's pretty good

Great thread. I'm a HUGE believer in 3D (and have been a 3D user in the past, although I'm not using it currently.) That said: ALL of my current hardware purchases were made with the idea of implementing 3D once again in my own userspace, so I've gone "full Nvidia" for my new (and also cur...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Johnny Nash: "I Can See Clearly Now." After this, maybe Pablo Cruise and "Ocean Breeze." EDIT: Turns out I haven't put Pablo Cruise's masterwork onto this PC, so I followed up instead with Ronnie Jordan's "After Hours." Since the latter tune often sends me off to dreaml...
