For the family's sake, I sure hope that's the case.

Yes, that is the person I am talking about, the action jim from the story has vanished, hopefully for good.

That was a pretty funny story. What ever happened to this action Jim guy?

I honestly don't recall. Maybe one of the long-time forum denizens who knew him IRL will comment. It's probably documented in a forum post somewhere.

Action Jim is still alive, just busy with his family.

Re: TR BBQ XIV - Official Thread (7/15/17 confirmed)

I just might join the junkyard this year and this is what I KNOW I can bring: Abit IP35 Pro with a seated C2D E6600 that happily ran at 3.2 for many a year (it's been in its original static bag since decom). Board also comes with 8 GiB of ADATA DDR2-800 (4x2 Gib). Slap a HSF on it and you've got a ...

Re: A crazy idea?

Abit was still around in mid-2007, as I bought my IP35 Pro based on this TR roundup review. It was about a year after I bought the board that Abit went Tango Uniform. http://techreport.com/review/12747/five-flavors-of-intel-p35-express-compared Yeah the US subsidiary went under late 05, the taiwan ...

yeah matrox is still around, although they haven't made a consumer card since the parahelia. They mostly just make specialty cards for industrial and other oddball stuff.

They were still around and made a lot of really good socket A boards, I have a huge pile of them from back then. They actually didn't go under until late 2005, I have one of their last AM2 boards they released.

Re: Personal Supercomputer, didn't know there was such a thing.

yeah it seems the only time intel really pushes hard for change is when AMD gives them a reason to do so, otherwise they coast along barely inovating. It is absolutely crazy that you can still be fine with a 10 year old rig at this point, it just shows how badly intel has been milking people. Now th...

They even apparently have 'em at K-Mart, though for $18 more. I am sure there are other examples such that an agreeable seller is available for most people. 8) All of the K-Marts near me have closed, so I would need to pay shipping, or expend gas/time to get to one that's still open. Aside from tha...

Re: Power sags can't hurt electronics right?

FWIW, my reasonably-priced 1500 VA UPS is rated for 900 watts for two minutes or 450 watts for eleven minutes. It keeps my PC and monitors powered up for 20 minutes of web browsing. It uses two 8½ Amp-hour 12 Volt batteries, so, at full draw, it's getting only 15% of the rated energy in the batteri...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

That's good at least, I had a dell laser printer at my last job and had stocked up on toners for it, when the current one ran out, I grabbed the oldest one in the back and installed it. The new toner read as empty even though it was brand new and full, and I couldn't get it to work and had to end up...

I just checked my current rig, the oldest drive in there, a 750 GB WD has 55,900 hours. Ill have to check some of my older drives and see if any have more than that.

Re: How long before your last build started to fail?

Rig in my sig still works fine, been using it since the late 90's. Bios battery finally died though, and I need to replace that, and the old SCSI drive is getting a little questionable, so may need to replace that soon. Pretty much all my old rigs still work, but I did get lucky and not really buy m...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

I'm not sure what my post has to do with your paranoia about proprietary systems and tiny cell phones. I'm using a mid-size case that can take up to an EATX motherboard. As I no longer use hard drives in my PC I was able to remove the dual 3.5" bays to improve internal airflow. The 2.5" b...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

From my 2012 build to my 2107 build I have stopped using 5.25", 3.5", and 2.5" drives. Case size has dropped by a third while fan size has increased to 140mm from 120mm. This reminds me of around 10 years ago when the trend for cell phones was to make them as small as possible. They ...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

OK I have some rants about cases now. My Corsair 300R has the 3.5" drive cage rotated 90 degrees and uses trays that can also handle 2.5" drives so it is far less awkward to install new a HDD/SSD. This should be a standard feature of cases, so why isn't it? Glass windows on cases, why wou...

Re: PS4 Future

I don't think it can support 4K Blu-Ray discs. The hardware isn't in it, from what I've read so far. It uses the exact same drive from the basic PS4, the only thing they really changed was the motherboard and psu. Most likely it was to keep the PS4 Pro from ending up a repeat of the extremely high ...

Lian-Li PC-A76WX Windowed case Replaced my venerable Lian-Li PC-70 I got back in the late 90's, was one of the few cases at the time I could fine with a lot of room for hard drives, and more than 1 5.25 drives as I still use my CD drives for games and other stuff. EVGA P2-1200 Placed my previous 750...

When I was younger, i would drink 2-3 2L RC colas a day. I seriously doubt someone would die from a few things without an underlying heart problem, or he may have been up all night pounding them, and followed that with then for his breakfast.
