Okay, given that is true, it seems Windows does a defragmentation on highly fragmented files even on SSDs. So it still seems like a 3rd party defrag tool isn't necessary.
I have a Crucial C300 SSD that's apparently been on for 63917 hours or 7.3 years. Since it was introduced in 2010 and I didn't buy it right away, that sounds about right. That's not a HDD. :P I have a couple 128 GB first-gen Indilinx drives that have been running since mid 2009. Rock solid once the...
I'm fairly certain that what's presented as "contiguous" to the system isn't even necessarily so internally due to the wear-leveling algorithms (as well as sector remapping if your drive is on its way out). All defragging an SSD does is use up more writes.

I'm okay with the bombs themselves actually. They could be propellentless self-propulsion for all I care.
The remote control itself is what broke my immersion. It basically screams "we want you to sympathize with this heroic character but we only can do that with such an obtuse method".
The Snapdragon 835 found in most flagship phones this year is also at 2.4(5)GHz so I thought I'd run the Android version of SuperPi. It's probably not as well optimized as it could be but just an interesting datapoint I thought.
In scenario of the opening post, assuming it wasn't just human issues (someone swapped it without telling anyone), I've seen a lot of cheaper power adapter output grossly high voltages so it doesn't seem inconceivable that such a faulty adapter was outputting just enough juice to keep the electronic...
Depends on the game but some recent games show a clear difference between i5's (4 threads) and the corresponding i7's (8 threads). I'd say that 8 threads is what you need to shoot for at minimum for optimal performance.
I think you guys are too pessimistic. A bunch of companies are funding the development of the ISA. SiFive has already made a small number of development boards using a RISC-V based micro-controller. Cool story, the British government funded development of the transputer architecture, look how tha...
Our smartphones are already at way higher PPI and still need AA to remove jaggies. So we'll need even higher PPI before we can eliminate AA and frankly, that's basically just SuperSampling it away. As for Texture Filtering, you'd need supremely high resolution textures as well as high PPI. Consideri...
Its absurd for someone to want to use a mouse with a MacBook. I get why PC laptop users use a mouse. It's because the trackpad on PC laptops sucks. If you have to use a mouse then connect it via Bluetooth. Not even the macbook trackpad is good enough for Excel (and many other tasks). And for mundan...

Root is honestly more important than flashing a custom ROM nowadays. With the existence of Xposed, you can basically modify your stock ROM to your heart's content as long as you have root.
Entirely possible it's bad coding. Might be some combination that not everyone encounters as well. In any case, Vacuum Places Improved is a Firefox extension you can install and then run (don't need to keep the extension around afterward unless you want scheduled running). Might take longer on the f...
@Chrono - I don't think in my case it searching the disk for any sort of history or cache file would slow it down this much. I've got a Samsung 840 Evo (250g) on a SATA 6gb/s port. Things are ultra snappy. It's not necessarily a disk thrash issue. It could simply be some sort of locking issue where...
I don't get the hiccups but I used to a few versions back. Frankly, if not for Firefox's Awesomebar, I'd probably be using Chrome a lot more. There are a few idiosyncracies in Chrome that bug me though (for example, if you use the attachment button in Gmail a lot, you'll start noticing Chrome tends ...
The thing is, the reason Apple caught up to that level so quickly is because it's simply implementing all the low-hanging fruit. It simply gets harder and harder to extract more out as you get faster. They've been getting 2x performance every 18 months pretty consistently. And doing some novel thin...
