Re: Star Wars Episode 7??

Hawking, I bought the 60" version of that TV and I've been loving it. I mostly use it for sports, blu-rays, and a few TV shows and they all look great. My roommate's XBOX also looks awesome on it. I looked at both the higher end VT and ST series and couldn't really discern a difference so I wen...

Re: Star Wars Episode 7??

Michael Bay – Episode 7 will follow a nervous 19 year-old social outcast Bill Sobievski as he falls in with the Jedi Knights by being nearby when their ship crash lands (and then explodes). He is smitten with one of the young female Jedi, who will have an amazing set of abs and little clothing. Aft...

Those are some great points guys, thanks. I always appreciate the perspective (read: reigning me back in from overspending :)). I was looking at the 650D because the Hydro wouldn't work in my current case (140mm rear fan) and because I wanted something new. I currently have a CM HAF 932, but am fond...

Wikipedia is accomplishing the blackout using Javascript, specifically the wikimedia.org domain. You can use NoScript to disable that domain and view pages without issues. Escape works too, unless your connection is slow and you cancel the page load by pressing escape. Their mobile site is also acce...

Updated my grandparents Outlook setup for FIOS email to the new ports. Mundane for a techie, all Greek to my grandparents. Troubleshot an intermittent connectivity issue at my parents. Re: Best Buy commercial follow-up

The series of commercials feature the person showing up Santa's gift selection with Best Buy merchandise and generally being jerks about it with the catch phrase "Watch out Santa!". I found the commercials annoying too and got a chuckle out of the idea that Santa would counter with "W...

Re: Custom Built Home Router

No worries Dirge. Lots of people use custom firmware in place of the vendor supplied firmware for exactly that purpose. For example, I know Tomato allows you access to the IPTables rules so you can configure them to your liking and is updated more often than the stock Linksys firmware. This won't ne...

Hello Gerbils, I'm upgrading my home network setup to gigabit speed and while searching for a new gigabit router I've been considering several options. I've used a WRT54GL with Tomato for quite some time and have enjoyed the rock solid performance and the ability to tweak the configuration to suit m...

Re: Steam Hack More Severe than previously thought.

Another option for an SSH server may be your router itself; I know Tomato firmware supports ssh tunneling and DD-WRT probably does also. Tomato also supports Public Key authentication, strongly recommended imho (along with a non-standard port, and a rate limit on password attempts if no pubkey).

What frustrates me is that there really isn't a good open source solution for HD content. There are great Linux distros for unencrypted content but for anything encrypted you either need a STB /w Firewire workaround or a CableCard. Apparently the CableCards only work with Windows too. Mine only took one extra phonecall (fios) but there are many legitimate nightmare stories (a la pray to FCC regulatory gods) particularly with smaller providers. Slight tangent concerning alternative words for the television remote control... My family called the remote the "buttons". As in, "Anyone know where the !#$@% buttons are? Put them back on the coffee table so they don't get lost all the time!"

I did the same thing with my first two credit cards Rakh. I signed up for two Citi-bank cards on campus during college and they gave me a free T-shirt! I used to rigorously track mine when my Civic (regular, not hybrid) was new, but I haven't lately. I reset the trip calculator after each fuel-up to get a general idea. I average about 30-33 mpg when I wake up on time and don't sit in much traffic (mixed highway and city), and 25-28 when I don't. Lo...
