Re: What Router do you use?

Netgear R7000 at home. Fast and stable.

Using Ubiqiti's at work, and they're really nice as well. Using the Long range 2.4GHz Wireless-N units.

Re: Pick my mini ITX Skylake motherboard

Only one I have experience with is my ASUS Maximus Impact VIII, but that's about $100 over your budget. I mainly got it for the U.2 port. The good onboard sound was a nice bonus too, but unless you're pairing the board with the Intel 750 SSD, that MB is probably overkill. I generally go for ASUS any...

Re: would you upgrade a 3770k ?

I just upgraded to Skylake from Ivy Bridge, but only because I wanted the Z170 chipset. Mini-ITX build with a Maximus VIII Impact board and U.2 Intel 750 SSD. I'm very happy with it, but I can't say the CPU performance difference is noticeable.

Re: GTA 5 worth it ?

Hmm, and I've got Saints Row 2, 3, and 4 sitting unplayed in my Steam library. I guess I should look into those first. Should I play them in sequence? Or skip any? In sequence would be best, but if you're going to skip any, skip 2. It's the most GTA-like, with only slight departures into the zany. ...

Re: GTA 5 worth it ?

See if you can try the game out first and then you'll have a better idea of how much you're willing to pay for it. Like Steam Family Share, or watch some Let's Plays.

Me personally, I found it very boring, and couldn't get through it. I guess I've now been spoiled by the Saint's Rows and Just Causes.

I got the EVGA 980Ti SC+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814487142 when my 7950 died last month.

I really like it. Very quiet and very fast. Got the Acer 4K g-sync monitor to go with it. Best use of my tax refund ever.

Re: Considering buying a VW GTI. Am I crazy?

Another vote for the Mazda 3. Especially the 2010 and up models. It really is the best mix of cheap+fun+reliable+fuel economy. The Focus is pretty good too. The MX-5 Miata is even better, but you might not be able to fit your family in a 2-seater. Also, not many days in Seattle you'd want to put the...

Re: New $2865 system

If your computer costs more than a few hundred bucks, it's worth it to get insurance. That is: get a battery backup instead of a simple surge suppressor. A UPS will filter the power coming in, and protect against brownouts and blackouts. A surge suppressor will simply blow its fuse if the voltage sp...

Re: Enter here for a chance to win a free Just Cause 2 license

My first build was back in 1998, I believe. I was replacing my old Pentium 100MHz system with a K6-233. My memory may not be completely accurate, but I think it had 32 or 64MB of SDRAM initially. I upgraded it to 128MB eventually. A 6.4GB HDD, and a Trident 8MB PCI video card, which I later suppleme...

If you're looking for good signal strength and reliability, you can go up to a commercial-grade router. http://www.wlanparts.com/product/VF2825?meta=FRG&utm_source=GBASE&utm_medium=CPC&utm_content=&utm_campaign= Don't know if you think $150 is justified, but the thread title said &qu...

Without knowing your particular needs, I'd say if you've got an Intel CPU, then the must have Mac software would be BootCamp. That way you can run Windows and thus 99.999% of all software.

Re: battlestar Galactica

I'd take it over Stargate: Atlantis. I'd have to disagree with that. Atlantis' last couple seasons have been getting better and BSG's last season got worse. So now it comes down to a silly action/adventure or a silly melodrama. For me the choice is the former. Plus BSG only produces 1 season for ev...

Good game, but it takes absolutely forever. An average game of Civ4 takes about 4 hours, but a quick game of Sins takes at least 6 hours (usually more).

Just get one of those USB hub PCI cards. Many of them have 1 or even 2 internal USB ports. Then just plug in a flash drive to the internal port. Here's all of Newegg's PCI USB cards http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010010073+1187112431&name=PCI+to+USB+Card

Re: bent pins

I've had to do this a few times, and if you're careful, you can try using a dull razor blade. It's perfect for straightening a whole row of pins at once. Then as was mentioned before, use a small flathead screwdriver or empty mechanical pencil to make fine adjustments to individual pins.
