Re: TR BBQ XVI 8/10/19 - Official Thread

Hey, guys. I wasn't committed to come because I've been a bit overwhelmed with work stuff, but I was still hoping to pull out a last-minute trick and make it up there somehow. Turns out I just can't swing it. Nathan just left a little while ago, though, so the Wassons will be represented. I will pee...

I’m bringing my White Fox with custom keycaps and several switch testers for keyboard nerds to check out. If you have interesting keyboards to bring, please do! I want to see a vintage Model M or F and a Topre board. :)

Booked flights, car, and hotel room for me and Nathan. Planning on bringing at least one spectacular custom keyboard. If you have any interesting specimens, please bring ‘em and we can compare notes.

Wasn't me, guys. I am indeed on the graphics side of things and was very busy otherwise when this happened. I'm pretty sure some of the former press guys on the CPU side are quoted or named in the article, including James Prior (Rage 3), Don Woligroski (Tom's), and Robert Hallock (dunno which site)....

Come test game performance in the Radeon Technologies Group

Indulge me as I offer a bit of a public service announcement. My group at AMD is hiring. If you're in the Toronto area and you are into PC gaming and performance, check out this opportunity.

I've been asked to weigh in on this question, so I'll try to contribute what I can. I have a few thoughts. On variance from frame to frame: One of the key issues with measuring animation smoothness meaningfully is understanding what things our visual systems actually perceive as problems. Since we s...

Local repair shop took a look at that picture and said it's a bad panel, not worth replacing given the price. Guess it's time to buy a new TV.

Re: Skylake may feature "inverse hyperthreading"?

Talked to Andreas from C't who seems to have sparked this rumor. He was trying to understand a perf gain that came from another place, mostly 2X ring and LLC bandwidth improving performance in SPEC CPU, and so he speculated about this sort of thing. Clearly is not what's happening with Skylake, thou...

Re: thoughts on power virus games and GPU Boost

Just wanted to drop in and say that Nvidia's GPU Boost algorithm has had temperature caps built into it forever, and they can be configured by the user to prevent the GPU from reaching whatever temperature you deem too high. Nvidia also introduced frame-rate targeting via NVAPI. It's in EVGA Precisi...

Well, I'm flying out of Grand Rapids on Sunday and into San Francisco for a week at IDF, but it looks like I'll be able to attend. I can't stuff a car full of things to give away, but I'll think of something to bring as a grand prize, at least, I suspect. Sadly, I don't think Nathan or Adam will be ...

Re: monitor calibration?

It depends. Hardware yes, software, you need to look on the display support. But IIRC there is also open source tools that support some colorimeters so you can measure whatever you wan't and not create a profile. Just set it to the best of your ability. You can measure and if you have RGB Controls ...
