Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

1080ti is now the best buy for the buck for hashing (some are still $699-720, I don't expect it to stay low for long). I have 3 of them hashing now making about $25 a day after power costs, one in my gaming PC when I am not gaming, and 2 in my home server. I drop the power limit from +120 (gaming) t...

Re: What's the best electric toothbrush?

I use the basic Sonicare, not sure the model number but it's the big fat one. Worked great for about 18 months but now it won't hold a charge--battery is supposedly replaceable but even third-party batteries cost almost as much as a new unit. I keep meaning to upgrade but it's effort and I'm lazy; ...

I got the Zotac AMP edition 1080ti for $699, would recommend it over FE. +50core (2035mhz) +700memory (12,400 mt/s) The only complaint I have is related to my use of custom fan curves (afterburner). I am not a fan of this whole "keep fans off until 60c" which is fine just set a curve and y...

Re: 7700k, wow!

Well, as it happens, 5-10% IPC generational improvements over some four (five?) generations do add up. Agreed, except I went from a 5ghz haswell to this, and the gain was defiantly between haswell and the lake chips. I had 4.1ghz Bloomfield, 4.8ghz Sandybridge, 4.8ghz Ivybridge, and 2 haswell chips...

Anybody delid their 7700k? I just got the Rockit 88 and will delid soon. With good cooling, the 7700k at stock runs hot. In gaming, 78C, with 24C room. Too hot. I delid 3 of them. Here are the results: https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=119137 My personal 7700k is running at 5.1...

Even though it's not quite in overheat territory, that's still a bit warmer than it should be for stock clock on stock cooler.

I went from a 4.9ghz 4790k DDR3-2133 to 5.1ghz 7700k DDR4-3600 and saw massive (unexpected) smoothness gains. I'm pretty confident that the memory jump gave me the most seat-of-the-pants gains, but I can attest that it was a real doubling of my low fps numbers (like MMOs in packed ares, BL2 with hea...

I honestly do not get why people don't understand this. Maybe a lack of understanding or knowledge I suppose, but it's time to listen. It's not your motherboard, it's not your power supply, it's not some microcode issue. Ryzen on that GF process is just not going to OC well no matter how many cores...

Re: computerbase.de Revisits Ryzen Gaming Performance

I still say wait for the r5 (4c/8t) for gaming performance. I would expect it to be able to rev to 4.5ghz to 5ghz. That will give you the gaming performance people are looking for. Unless we get a zen 1.1, or silicon revision, I would not expect any ghz headroom increase. I'd put money is on 4.1-4....

Re: Can anyone clear up - safest 3200MHz RAM approach?

The speed of the memory will not damage the chip, but voltage will.

Anything under 1.4v is considered the max safe for normal usage 24/7 on intel's DDR4 memory controller.

Check Power options (in Control Panel), if set to High Performance, try using a Balanced profile. Sounds like something is keeping it from stepping down.

Ryzen reminds me more of how K10 (Phenom 1 x4) started, minus the TLB bug. Good chip if you need more cores, good IPC, true quad (vs intel's dual-core core2's at the time, you could get the $600-1000 pre-q6600 quads from intel), just not enough ghz.

IDK, like I said above, even Rimworld, which reports a steady 60 FPS on both systems, is subjectively smoother on my 7700k with it's super-speed memory. I am finding the same, going from a 4790k to 7700k and DDR3 2133 to DDR4 3600 has significantly increased game smoothness, it is noticeable. My lo...

I wish I could build someone even one system with a budget like that.  You got 2 (plus your own).  Lucky dog. Haha, it wasn't that bad. Nice results! It's always a good feeling when you can drop your temps and increase performance over stock settings. I forgot to mention this, at stock settings, Chip 1 & 2 were 1.214v chips (in cpuz) while chip 3 was 1.246v (and could not break 5.0ghz). Also going from 4.9ghz 4970k to this chip ...

Re: If you are getting Kaby Lake, go ahead & Delid it

You can use it without a lid, but you better be totally one hundred percent fine with busting your CPU because it will more than likely happen if you're not careful. I personally wouldn't use an AIO cooler in that case because you can't tell how much pressure you're putting on the die. Then again, ...
