Re: What is your sound set up?

Typical Realtek codecs can still struggle to drive headphones decently. My Xonar DSX has no such issues. Neither did the VIA onboard audio on my M3A78-CM (circa 2009). I'm sure this could be addressed by adding an op amp to drive the headphone jack, but Realtek's reference designs (which most mobo ...

So the Xonar Windows 10 drivers suck? That's useful to know, in case I decide to upgrade the audio on my upcoming Windows build. Xonar would've probably been my first choice otherwise. (The Linux Xonar drivers haven't given me any trouble.)

I use the Maxedtech drivers for my Xonar DSX.

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

Attempted and failed to fix my father's 97 SeaDoo GTi. It sat for 7 years and while it looks brand new, the fuel lines, filters, carb, and prop shaft bearings are all gunked or need replaced. I at least increased it's maximum speed from 25 MPH up to 40 MPH or so, but it doesn't have the right amoun...

My hvac issue was just a bad thermostat, happens often after storms like we've had the other day the tech said. He also said my vents(and t-stat which i suspected, near 3 vents) are in a bad location when I mentioned the uneven heating between rooms, they're too close to one another and should be by...

removed it from the housing and reinserted it and the display works but it doesn't show an indoor temperature (it shows "- -" instead) and only the fan on function works, the heat and cool settings don't work. Is there something wrong with cutting the house power that HVAC systems don't l...

Update on my ceiling fan: I found the manual online which showed how to wire it and I opened in another tab the standard wiring colors for houses and reinstalled the ceiling fan and wired it and it works. However, the first time I flipped the main breaker(to uninstall it, too lazy to check which cir...

Got an old maxtor/seagate diamondmax 21 320GB drive with 62834 powered on hours, bought 2 of them during a frys sale, I recently broke the other one's power connector  I still use it as a small supplement to my multi TB drives, smart data looks perfect too, wish the 1TB and 1.5TB Seagate drives...

Fiio M3 portable music player. It's a great portable music player for the money (great sound quality) but it doesn't do gapless playback and that bugs me, particularly if the album I'm listening has tracks that fade out(or crossfade) into the next track since you get that tiny amount of silence that...

Delidding and replacing the thermal paste is what I tend to do. It's easy, low risk, and gets you MUCH better temps. The wife's 4770K dropped 30+ degrees under load after replacing the compound with liquid ultra. Unless it was a poor job at the factory (Likely story with that 4770K and other earlie...

christos_thski, what are your core/ram speeds? Updated: http://linserv.biz.tm/dat/TR_Super_Bench_Results.xlsx You accidentally put my score for 8k optimized in there instead of 1080P extreme, which I assume is what the spreadsheet list is comprised of. 3850 was my score as 1080P extreme btw :) edit...

Re: VLC - The best worst media player?

I don't do much video consumption on the desktop these days (so perhaps I'm a bit out of the loop), but VLC has never given me any grief.  The interface isn't the greatest, but after the codec and media-player hell of the early-2000's, I'm still relieved in not really having to deal with that anymo...

I use MPC-BE(switched from -HC some time ago) with madvr and LAV, the upscaling in madvr is far superior to VLC and I'm not sure if there is anything better. The interface isn't an abomination like WMP or Powerdvd, it's nice and minimal, reminds me of Foobar2000. MPC-BE (and HC) have some nice shade...
