Re: Help me understand, why is there a sport section?

I would guess the OP has his answer by now, but in case not: There is obviously quite a lot of crossover between tech and sports--the wealth of sports games and simulations (and the use of the latter in the real world of sport) is a clear testament to that. Then too is the fact that many sports-min...

Wow.......that's something they'd definitely buy on that American Pickers show, cause you'll probably never see another one.

Unfortunately, you're only allowed to use it for polka-related vinyl.

I wonder what this could be? I'm gonna go with some sort of squeeze box. I have cousins who use to play. It is not a functioning musical instrument (or a non-functioning one, for that matter). Hmm...... Yeah, the keys aren't functional, and there's no speaker, because the area that appears to be a ...

Re: Upgrading to CoffeeLake, or should I wait ?

Microcenter dropped their prices again; $249 for the 8600k and the i7 8700k for $399. That's still about $70 more than they usually charge for similar, but with additional cores and such, they might only go down another $20-30 if that.

With everything else still high, I'd continue to wait.

I had a higher-end microwave meal for lunch yesterday (if there is such a thing), and it came with a Sriracha sauce packet. I like spicy foods, but never tried much of that particular brand (I don't partake in table condiments at restaurants). While the taste was alright, it made my whole place sme...

Yes, RGB is both good for specific keys and also getting a color like low intensity orange (my preference) that isn't popular as a standard backlighting color. Yeah....I think RGB gets a bad rap on keyboards (where it can actually be useful), mainly because it's overused elsewhere ad nauseam, and e...

Re: Gaming keyboard and mouse

I use a Corsair M65 myself, but mice are extremely subjective, and alot depends on his grip style and preferred amount of weight. He's probably going to want to try a few in person before buying (maybe ask at Microcenter?). For gaming keys, I use a Razer Orbweaver Chroma Stealth (standard switches a...

Re: Upgrading to CoffeeLake, or should I wait ?

I too have been tempted to jump on Coffee Lake (also running a 2500k), but I think it's still too early. Even Microcenter only *just* dropped the 8600k down to $299, after keeping at full-blown $349 for some time (even $299 is still over $100 more than they usually charge for an i5 K-series). I woul...

What price range are you aiming for? I've been happy with my Brother laser ( this would be the current equivalent ), though it doesn't really get put through its paces with me. Re: UPS Failure Mode

UPS batteries need to be replaced every 3-5 years. The tone of your post gives the impression that you're expecting them to last forever. 5 years is really pushing it for a server UPS, and your 10 year old home unit is just a surge protector right now.

Re: Vega very strong in newly released games

Topino, my point is that it's not a guaranteed thing that new GPUs/architectures will perform well in newer games. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. AMD has a better record than NVIDIA, but both have produced cards that excel at older games but crap out on newer. Fiji is a good example of an...

I can't get into any of the new american muscle cars. They've got crazy high HP and I'm sure they're a blast, but they're also rather oaf'ish by today's standards. They don't have the character of the classics, and high horsepower alone just doesn't impress me these days. It also seems like america...

Checked out Red Arrow Tap Room last night. Interesting concept. They hand you a smartcard when you arrive; all of the beer is self-serve, but you need to insert your card into a slot below the tap to turn it on. The beer is sold by the ounce, and each pour is recorded on your card. So you can work ...

I recently replaced a couple blown caps on the power board of a 42" plasma, and it was a piece of cake. Your results will vary wildly though, depending on the exact model and issue (I got lucky in almost every facet). It sounds like you might not actually want it fixed though.

I'm actually most interested to see how much the onboard HBM2 boosts the CPU performance. Could be even more than the Broadwell i7-5775c. We also have a 650. As long as they don't take the MyHarmony service down to reprogram it if we get something new, it's fine. But I've always been wary, since it can apparently only be programmed over the internet. An application with an updateable database of known devices/codes would have been pr...
