Re: How to get FACore 17 WU's?

A GTX 680 is plenty fast for Core_17. To get Core_17, you need a video driver with OpenCL built-in i.e. newish. If you are running a notebook, do not use the driver specific to the notebook (They tend not to come with OpenCL), but rather the Generic manufacturer's driver. Do not downgrade a driver v...

Re: Points system needs looked at

Khali, do you have a passkey configured in your client? Previous cores gave fixed points for completing the WU. The new Core_17 give less fixed points but also gives quick return bonus (QRB) points that should increase your points beyond the previous cores if you are running at least a GTX 460. Howe...

You say you know what the error means but you are asking the wrong questions because you are asking opions about the validity of your hard drive. This error has nothing to do with the HD, so your HD is fine and so is your MB/computer. The MB controller and the HD controller add a Cyclic Redundancy ...

Re: Cloning Windows NT 3.5 drive-HELP!

You can change the boot.ini but it is a pain because you need to do so from some other machine that will boot with that drive in it because as it is you don't have to access to any tools to edit the drive. Wait...did NT 3.5 have a bootable install CD with a "repair" option, like NT4 did? ...

Re: Cloning Windows NT 3.5 drive-HELP!

Sorry, but you can not move a Windows NT boot drive drive from IDE to SATA and still successfully boot without manually modifying the boot.ini. Those are different HD controllers and the boot.ini specifies which controller to boot from in the syntax. Unless xxclone automatically modifies the boot.in...

Re: upgraded to HD 7770, now PC won't POST

If the machine won't post any more, you now have a HW problem. My guess is that when you replaced the video card you didn't physically unplug the power beforehand and you fried the MB. On modern machines, even when you totally shut them down the MB still has power coursing through it unless you have...

Re: Cloning Windows NT 3.5 drive-HELP!

In the old NT, there is a file called boot.ini that controlled the boot process. A typical boot.ini looks like: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)rdisk(0)disk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)rdisk(0)disk(0)partition(1) \WINNT="Windows NT Workstation 4.00" multi(0)rd...

How to identify whats actually running

Use the task manager and find out the PID (Process ID) that you need to identify. Then run cmd.exe and type the command tasklist /SVC and match the PID from that list.

Bonnie and Clyde (1967). My parents wanted to see it and it was being shown in a drive-in theater so the entire family went in our station wagon. You are comparing a traditional HD to high speed SSD. Of course the HD is going to be slow. I think your perception is simply all skewed by the speed of the SSD, unless you can supply numbers that support your perception of slowness.

Re: Help needed asap, my computer died suddenly, can't turn

You really don't know how things inside a computer work do you. Yes, you need a CPU to execute BIOS code which is where the POST instructions exist. The CPU is hardwired to start executing code upon power-on at a specific address ( 0xFFFF0) which is located in the BIOS which will be a jump address t...

The OP says: "and now it's refusing to turn on at all, nothing happens when the power button is pressed" How is the chipset going to report error codes to the beeper if the machine can't power up? The chipset is not what reports the error codes, the POST (Power on self test) does and that...

If it's power cycling itself, a speaker isn't going to do anything for you. You can all speculate what the problem is, and I'm sure someone will be right but no one yet has done anything other than to speculate... Mostly because we aren't anywhere near the computer. Exactly, but rather than guessin...

If it's power cycling itself, a speaker isn't going to do anything for you. Even then it should beep code why it is. It may be the motherboard, but it could also be RAM, or the PS, or even something else like a shorted cable. The fact is that no one here actually knows and no one here has even come...

Bad idea! You need to be communicating to the person or your/their superiors rather than applying unilateral force. It is quite possible that the working environment is not for you and you need to seek employment elsewhere where you are not tempted to do illegal acts to manipulate people to your way.

I can't say I do so much testing that when a computer goes out the door that every slot and every port has been tested. Re: LaserJet 1000 replacement

LJ5 doesn't have the intermittent jamming issues that the 4 series had. It is my understanding that the 5-series fuser runs at a slightly lower temp which lessens the amount of paper curl and thereby less paper path issues. Both the LJ4 and LJ5 are built to last forever with maintenance so a rebuilt...
