Re: Sharing HDMI in Another Room - Hopefully Wireless

Thanks for the help all! I was about to do just what MDBT said, but thought I would check with yall first. The HDMI extenders are fairly low range, which is the only drawback. Thanks again!

Sharing HDMI in Another Room - Hopefully Wireless

I was hoping you guys might have some input on this problem: I have a single HDMI output from my Directv satellite box that I would like to replicate in another room without running wires up and down walls and across the attic. There are two walls in between the receiver and the TV. I thought about ...

Re: Tube Receiver or Amp and Passable Speakers

You can prefer the colored sound, but don't delude yourself into thinking that it's because the amp is "better". It is measurably worse in every characteristic of a signal amplifier. If you are so sure hearing and listening are perfectly modeled by measurements, why don't the most perfect...

Re: Tube Receiver or Amp and Passable Speakers

Modern solid state amps driven within their limits sound, to the human ear, identical to properly designed tube amps that don't color the sound. I have done double blind tests that are contrary to your statement. In fact, if you can find a pair of active devices of any type that have no sound signa...

Re: Tube Receiver or Amp and Passable Speakers

And for those of us who lived through the Stereo Wars of the 1970s, we discovered that although our gear had measured THD down in the thousandths of a percent, that "accuracy" was achieved at the cost of the music. That gear simply didn't sound musical. If numbers were a perfect indicator...

Re: Re-flow: I need this specific browser feature

How about just dropping your monitor's resolution? Or getting a bigger size with the same resolution? Thanks, but this would be a step backward. My photo and graphic arts stuff is best done with native resolution and I really don't want to buy any monitors with lower resolution. If you cannot read ...

Re: Achieva Shimian QH300-IPSMS LED 2560x1600

The TFT Central review was of an entirely different panel. This one is made by LG and is LED backlit, where the one reviewed was CCFL. Unfortunately, that means we really don't have much data on it's performance.

Re: Achieva Shimian QH300-IPSMS LED 2560x1600

It turns out the seller of this monitor was unable to tell me if there is backlight intensity control, so I am waiting this one out until someone can confirm there is control and that there is not noticeable flicker.

Well I got impatient and ordered the ASUS Z87-PRO. It looked like it would be fine after reading the TR review. I hope there aren't any revelations that make me regret my choice, but that is the cost of early adoption, huh?

Z87 Motherboard Choices

Here is the context of my question, but feel free to discuss any of the Z87 motherboards, etc. It is finally time to upgrade my system. The old Q6600 was good to me, but I'd like to take advantage of the power savings of the new hardware and I need USB 3.0 for data transfer to HDD and flash drives, ...

I recommend a Big Green Egg. They are not traditional like the steel pits but they are more versatile and they make really damn good slow cooked meat of all kinds!

Re: Making your own beer

SO, an update. Although the Sam clone does look and smell like beer, it has a decidedly sweet, almost cidery taste. Did I fark something up? Did the yeast die and leave sugar? Really I should wait at least another week before trying, as it isn't done priming yet, but....lolwut. It sounds like you a...

Re: Making your own beer

The biggest refinements to my process have been: 1) Ditching dry yeast; liquid yeast cultures are the way to go. White Labs and Wyeast are both decent, but lately I've had better (more consistent) results with Wyeast. 2) Getting a handle on recipe formulation -- i.e. how different ingredients affec...

That was the sloppiest looking I have ever seen the Huskers. Ever. The defense played good. The offense was just horrible except for Helu. Zac Lee can't throw for ****. probably partly nerves... Downloaded and installed quite quickly for me yesterday afternoon. It is quite a jump up in responsiveness for me using the various programs, most notably safari. Funny thing though, I was going to get a 3GS until this came out, who needs a faster processor when this one is now pretty responsive?

Guatemalan coffee that I roasted a few days ago. Guatemala Fraijanes - Finca Agua Tibia to be specific. So much better than ground coffee with roach particles in it! Later, I plan on a few Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPAs.

I like PTI and I like Kornheiser, but I am glad he is getting out of it. Gruden seems a good fit as well. Hopefully he can soften Jaws' awkward and seemingly always-scripted anecdotes.

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

I had the same issue with my GTX260. I don't know if it was an update several weeks ago from Vista, Nvidia or F@H that fixed the problem. I had my F@H client turned off for a few days and then, no lag when I turned it on again. My work-around was to pause the F@H client while I was using the comput...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

Just checking in guys. I am folding with my GTX 260 full time, and the SMP client maybe half time. The SMP client draws a good bit of power, and it makes so many fewer points that it almost doesn't seem worth it right now. The electricity where I live is pretty expensive, so I may hold off entirely ...

Re: Anyone into building electronics?

I am into hifi two channel audio, and I just recently built my first DAC. Actually, I bought the DAC chip itself and I built the power supply and output section (which is vacuum tube based) and put it into a box. It is super fun to build electronics, particularly when you come up with most of the de...

Re: Forums too wide?

No. I like a narrow window because that is how I like to read. For some reason I like to see text about as wide as a paperback or pamphlet size columns, which is narrower than the default. It's just faster for me to read. It's not a real problem, I just made this thread because I thought something ...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

I was playing some games over the weekend, so my rig was out for a few hours. However, I have noticed that my fahmon ppd numbers have been lower as of late. I was up in the ~8500 range for a while and now I am sitting around ~7200 for the last week. The WUs as of late have not been good for me.
