Re: Almost 20 years

I can't think of anything, I went into an IT job and became jaded which completely put me off tech sites for awhile. Now that i have completely left the industry i'm slowly coming back to tech.

You probably weren't around during the days of Windy Soldam. But CaseLabs manufacturers the best almost modular water-cooling cases. Considering that most custom kits and the overall hardware can end up costing close to 5k what is 10% of the overall build cost?

CaseLabs Bankrupt and Forced to Close Down

We are very sad to announce that CaseLabs and its parent company will be closing permanently. We have been forced into bankruptcy and liquidation. The tariffs have played a major role raising prices by almost 80% (partly due to associated shortages), which cut deeply into our margins. The default o...

Re: BlackBerry 10 thoughts?

Too many people Know and Understand that a true smartphone is a utility, and no one can do the various forms of communication better than a Blackberry. That may have been the case back in 2001-2008 but it is widely accepted that Blackberry no longer has the lead in that department. Based on anecdot...

Re: Will I be able to survive without Andoird?

Ever considered a Blackberry Z10? The new OS looks great. Not going to be fragmented like Android or just meh like iOS. Plus the new microkernal concept is amazing. I guess it is going to be the most stable and secure mobile OS going forward.

You are lucky your family accepts trickle down hardware. I'm still running a WinXP netbook while wife is using a core i3 ultraportable.

Re: re: Tom'sHardware.com - sold out?

Wow, I've been here a long time. Ever since THG sold out I went to reading other hardware mags and sites like PCXL, maxPC and dailyradar. All of them closed or sold out after the dot com burst and I guess only TR is left. Never really got into Anand since there are very few articles that interest me...

Re: Blackberry and Android OS

I don't like how forked the Android OS is (some say Jelly Bean will solve that) and also call me paranoid but I don't want every single bit of my private information ending up in Google's hands. I'm currently using a BB Torch 9810 and if RIM fails then I would rather move to Windows mobile than go A...

Another beef I have is that these drivers still crash my Winxp system during any OpenCL or GL intensive task. Will be moving to my new rig this weekend hope I no longer have these issues.

Re: Console vs. gaming PC

Let me chime in. I grew up during the golden age of PC gaming where there were fantastic turn based strategy, RPGs and simulation games. Back in the day you took what you could get hardware wise and graphics were mostly sprite based but we were happy. We could *ahem* backup our games onto multiple f...

While doing a search I encountered a site selling i7 2700k cheaper than what other sites are selling the 2600ks for. I almost ordered until I encountered a very suspicious payment method of amazon gift vouchers only. Further google searches confirmed that it was indeed a scam site.

Just when I thought things were bad at the red camp with my 11.10 and 11.11 drivers crashing whenever anything anything OpenGL is run, it seems that the green camp is having driver problems of it's own.

Re: How is the HDD shortage affecting you?

We're having some issues with our new Clariion CX4 due to poor implementation advice from EMC. They recommended we put all drives into a single pool including SSD, FC and SATA with another 800gb of SSD used for FAST Cache. They then told after we went live in production that we should have a separa...

Re: How is the HDD shortage affecting you?

Do all external drives contain a standard HDD? I thought I had heard of some which had a special circuit board / adapter attached to the HDD. All 3.5" I broke open have standard drives. The few 2.5" that I broke open with much effort usually have some adaptor board stuck or soldered on, m...

I have a logitech ifeel mouse which is 10, going on 11 years old. I've worn out both the original and additional teflon tape I stuck on it. Some of the best deals still involve you physically being there, and not just there but among the first in line to get one of the very limited number of big ticket items they are actually selling at insanely low prices. But I've never been willing to get up (or stay up) and do that kind of thing ju...

Not affecting me personally since I have about 1.5T in main system. But my company's SAN is wonky and due for replacement. With HDD prices making up majority of the cost I think they would wait for prices to drop before doing the replacement.

Let's not cast too many stones, gentlemen. There are lots of us that don't think twice about dropping $200 on a case when a $40 case will do just fine. We're all guilty of laying out cash for immeasurable or impractical "improvements" to some extent. It's only when these foibles fall outs...
