Re: New guitar!

I love my natural 1975 Strat hardtail. I can't play it anymore but I keep it around for sentimental reasons. I went from Gibsons to Fenders about 10 years ago, my first guitar was a Les Paul copy, then a 1996 ES-335 Dot Reissue. Fenders record better IMHO, the tone is thinner and sits on top of the ...

Re: best Android alternative to iPad Retina Display

I can't vouch for the Wi-Fi or web browsing, but the Nook HD+ should be on your list to consider. The screen is quite beautiful. I'm perfectly happy with mine, especially since I got it after the price drop ($149).

Re: My Proposed Build for a DAW and Office Machine

Between systems, I don't keep track of CPU model numbers or chipsets. Your current CPU would be most comparable to the QX6700 on this chart, the slowest one listed. Your proposed 3930 would be most comparable to the 3960. There are overclocked results on the chart, so take that into consideration: ...

Re: My Proposed Build for a DAW and Office Machine

Yes, I already have one UAD-2 and may add another one sometime in the next 24 months. No rush on that, but if I add one, it'll probably happen before I do another hardware build...so yes, I'll need a couple of PCIe slots to support UAD2, plus one for the graphic card. The UAD have been notoriously ...

Re: My Proposed Build for a DAW and Office Machine

Here is a page full of DAW benchmarks, so you can decide if the 2011 socket is right for you: http://www.adkproaudio.com/benchmarks.cfm Second chart from the top. It hasn't been updated for Ivy Bridge, but they're a little faster than the Sandy. Do you plan to add DSP cards (e.g. UAD-2)? Have you pi...

Re: Your first R-rated movie?

I saw "Excalibur" (the R-rated version) in the theater with my mom when I was 14. No boy ever wants to watch a sex scene in those circumstances, but what was worse was my mom was laughing hysterically at the scene where one of the knights does the deed with his armor on. This was 1981 and ...

Re: Last Time You Purchased PC Software

I buy Universal Audio plugins, their platform (DSP card) has never been compromised and is unlikely to be, and while they're more expensive than they used to be the quality is unmatched. I've worked in commercial project studios where virtually everything was unauthorized. Luckily I started buying s...

Re: Huge Physics News

Send photons down the same pathway. If they arrive before you expect them to, then you know you have a measurement error. Compare the transit times with the neutrino tests, and you can confirm or disprove those findings. Why is this so hard?

Re: Unbelievable.

But consider the processor as an upgrade for AMD users with compatible AMD boards I build DAWs. I haven't built a single AM3+ system because Sandy is so cheap and so good. I did build a few AM2/AM3 systems before Sandy, but it looks like those folks are going to have to hunt down the remaining X6 c...

Re: Movies we've all seen???

I don't think I'd lie about seeing any of those, in fact the only one I've seen is Spinal Tap . (I lived Spinal Tap for 20 years as a recording engineer.) The only movie I've ever lied about seeing was the original Star Wars movie, in fifth grade I keep hearing my peers talk about this "Dark Ra...
