Re: Building a new home network

Hi all, Thanks for the help on this, we got the house properly wired up but i have a few other questions to help me understand the networking better so i can sell my father on how to best set up this network, So i know the default set up for a network is Modem > Router > Switch > Devices Starting th...

Re: Building a new home network

Thanks for the responses everyone. I thought that router situation was overkill. I've done some minor it work when i was in college so i've wired in a few RJ-45 wall jacks before. We also have a electrician coming to work on the house, so I think we might get them to at least run the wire. Assuming ...

Re: Building a new home network

It depends on what you want to do with it... The 8 ports really don't matter as you could go with less ports and use a network switch (more common). The gigabit ethernet is really only necessary if you're using a lot of bandwith on your local network. You're only as fast as whatever your ISP is pro...

Building a new home network

Hi, My father is currently remodeling his house and he wants to basically create a wired and wireless network in his house. He's really interested in this monster router for his home network. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124608&cm_re=linksys_EA9500-_-33-124-608-_-Pro...

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've adjusted my page file size and cleaned out some background programs. We'll see if this work going forward.

Re: Windows Memory Alerts

I found the answer to my question at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/639540/how-much-memory-can-a-32-bit-process-access-on-a-64-bit-operating-system " You've got the same basic restriction when running a 32bit process under Win64. Your app runs in a 32 but subsystem which does its best...

Re: Windows Memory Alerts

Can you give a general description of the system you're using? Kinda curious about this problem, have never seen it myself. Are you using a 32 bit version of Windows 10? Sure i5-3470 P8Z77-V LK 8 gigs ddr3 ram 120 gig SSD 1 terabyte HDD GTX 970 Did you make any hardware or OS changes recently? I ra...

Re: Windows Memory Alerts

Kept getting something like that on my wife's Win 10 laptop, but I had outfitted it with 12GB RAM so memory should not be an issue. Looked at the boot / start up list and disabled Adobe Reader and several Apple programs and uninstalled some stuff--Dropbox was on there for some reason and I didn't i...

Windows Memory Alerts

Windows 10 has been giving me some alerts recently that certain programs, specifically games, are using too much memory and windows suggests they be closed.  This is really annoying since it will boot me out of whatever i'm doing to tell me. It seems to happen when the program hits the 2 gig mark of...

Re: is it my psu or battery back up?

My unit was also an APC, and it also performs the same self-test (the clicking ya hear) when it loads the battery. The APC in question passed the battery multiple times the day I removed it, even though it was bulging so badly that it was pretty tightly wedged into the UPS. The inner seals were exp...

Re: is it my psu or battery back up?

Well wonders will never cease. seems like the issue really is my UPS and not the Power Supply. I ran the computer for awhile plugged into the wall, no issues, switch it back to the ups and after about a hour it happens again. plugged the computer back into the wall and i've had one instance where th...

Re: is it my psu or battery back up?

The apc was making a clicking noise which it does when it's self checking itself for issues. But it was happening a lot more often which made me think that it might be the apc. I have replaced the battery in the apc before and I know that's not the issue here. The apc won't shut up when the battery ...

is it my psu or battery back up?

I came home last night and my desktop was on a bios screen saying that the computer had shut down because my motherboard had detected unusual surges from the psu and shut down to protect itself. I restarted the computer and things seemed to run fine so I shut it down and went to bed. This morning wh...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

i upped the voltage on the ram and some of the issues changed, I would say its added some stability to the computer but it hasn't fixed it. The computer will always post now but will now sometimes freeze during start up. Does this tell me anything useful about whats going on with my computer or do I...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

If problems persist remove one stick of ram and see if it performs correctly. If it still screws up replace it and remove the other memory stick and try again. The computer only works with one stick of ram at the moment, It doesn't seem to matter which stick or which dimm slot, simply that only one ...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

I'll do that with the voltage.

Hopefully i'll also be able to get a psu soon to test if my psu is the problem.

I do not use zonealarm. The only firewall i use is what is built into windows.

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

I would first double check that everything is set to the right voltage in your bios especially your ram. (go by the manufacturers recommendation!) If everything checks out then I would slightly (5%-10%) over volt your ram. Next do the same for the north-bridge chip voltage if applicable and then fi...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

Are you observing ESD-safe handling procedures when installing your RAM? I attempt to ground myself but i dont go all out on the ESD stuff so that may have been a problem in the past. However i ran memtest all night and didn't come up with a error. It would seem that the ram is not a problem this t...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

Thanks for the responses guys, I haven't run memtest just yet but i will tonight. I've looked at my motherboard and none of the capacitors seem bulging or distorted or anything of the sort. I may be able to borrow a PSU from a friend to test out if the PSU so if that is necessary i can do that. The ...

Re: PC acting weird, wont post then works fine

I dont have spare parts around for testing. I know that makes figuring out a hardware problem tough but any other suggestions on how to troubleshoot would be appreciated.
