Re: Playstation 4

Timothy Lottes, apparently a programmer involved with creating FXAA, had some speculation on the PS4 which covered a lot of ground wrt what programmers might be able to do with low level hardware access. Unfortunately he's pulled his original post, but this site http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/12...

Re: Playstation 4

We also have to remember that developers will be probably be able to squeeze a lot more performance out of those Jaguar cores that what we might otherwise guess through the optimization potential that fixed console hardware provides, so I don't really think the APU is too overbalanced towards the GP...

Re: Used 480 GTX for $180- is this a good deal?

They're selling a sapphire version for $233 http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950BD5668&vpn=11200-00-20G&manufacture=SAPPHIRE which comes with a wicked looking cooler, so I'd say it isn't all that bad :) It is really tempting to go with that instead, but the extra cost over what I ...

Re: Used 480 GTX for $180- is this a good deal?

That is a great deal, and it's quite tempting actually. It's just over my $200 budget unfortunately, especially once you throw taxes on top :(

I have an offer for a used 570 now for $200, which is just slightly more than the 480 I was considering earlier.

Re: Used 480 GTX for $180- is this a good deal?

Thanks for your input everyone. I've decided to hold out for a used GTX 570 instead; less noise and less power draw to deal with.

Re: Used 480 GTX for $180- is this a good deal?

Thanks for the response. Here in Canada I've seen that EVGA 480 going for ~$200 as well, although taxes and shipping usually add another $30-$40 on to that price, which puts more distance between the used and new prices. There are some used GTX 570's for sale locally as well, going for $200. What wo...

Used 480 GTX for $180- is this a good deal?

Hello there folks! I'd like to replace my trusty ATI 4850 with something newer, and I have the opportunity to get a used 480 GTX for $180. I was wondering if you guys think this is a fair deal for a card of this vintage, or do you think I should hold out for better?

Re: Holiday Steam Sale 2011

Finally picked up the 2 Mass Effects, as well as a city builder game I've had my eye on for a while called Children of the Nile. I wanted to also get Civilzation 4 cheaply as a gift, but the price is still too high for me this sale; hopefully Christmas they'll bring it down back under ten bucks for ...

For myself this problem is greatly mitigated by using mostly portable apps and saving files...

I'm a bit surprised you did a "clean up" rather than a total wipe. In these situations I usually format the hard drive and start fresh; safer and (potentially) less irritating.

That is scary. Sadly it seems to be fairly common as well, as America continues to dismantle its industrial base and these post-industrial pockets continue to expand at a greater and greater rate. These communities are literally falling into irreperable decay. You should get out as soon as possible....

I can only assume you're referring to the Dragon Age or Mass Effect games, and I have to confess I haven't played 'em (yet!). But what I HAVE been playing recently have been the Baldur's Gate games, and while I love them and similar games, I recognize why they're not very popular: They're simply no...

According to SPCR , the fan on these things wont spin up at all until certain loads. "The PSU fan did not spin up at turn-on with a 20W load. In fact, it did not spin up immediately at turn-on even with a 200W load, at least not from a cold start." Also, "On the test bench with ambie...

Yeah, apparently it was an "error". Banning someone for a mild forum post, preventing them from playing a game they paid for, telling them their ban is official and results intended by quoting the TOS and then changing your mind when all the negative publicity starts rolling in, that doesn...

I was planning on getting this, mostly because Bioware have always been good to me, but won't because EA have shown themselves, once again, to be a bunch of douchebags. Firstly, for lying about using SecurROM , and secondly for preventing a paying customer from playing the game. I guess it was stupi...

I'm also one of those who has had way too many issues with Norton software. Painful to run, even more painful to get rid of. Haven't used Microsofts AV, but I've used most of the other free alternatives available, and have settled on using Avira's free AV, mostly because it's well behaved and doesn'...

No problem, I still got your point. Playing around with the headphone.com graphs helps, too ;) To the open vs closed debate, your last point on the subject is probably the best one, namely that "It's easier to make a closed headphone bassy but there's no reason an open headphone cannot be equal...

Re: Decent headphone suggestions?

Are you sure about that? In my research, most opinion is that open-type headphones tend to give less bass than closed-type headphones in the same pricerange. The best example of that is actually the A700 you mentioned, which seems to be the closed-back brother of the AD700. The bass response on the ...

Re: Decent headphone suggestions?

Well, I woudn't say the bass isn't there; it is, and it's accurate and detailed, but not what I'd describe as "punchy", certainly not as skull thumping as, say, "the beats" by Dr Dre. A lot of that is because they're "open" type headphones, which gives them a bigger sou...

Why not get the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700? I have mine hooked up to an X-Fi Prelude, and am extremely satisfied with the results. Regarding PhysX and ATI, Richard Huddy (AMD developer relations) had this to say http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/interviews/2010/01/06/interview-amd-on-game-development-and-dx11/1 ; "[Nvidia] put PhsyX in there, and that's the one I've got a reasonable amount of respect for. Even though I don't th...

Which completely negates being brand loyal. Being brand loyal happens when two companies offer close products but one has a slight lead and you purchase the slower one because you like the brand. AMD and Intel are basically identical as far as their service goes, but as of right now Intel leads in ...
