1920 X 1080 144hz Gaming

So I was thinking about upgrading my brothers computer as it's a bit old and his 1070 runs hot. I was considering a 5700 XT or 2060 Super; based on the reviews I've seen so far board partner 5700XTs are out performing 2060, 2060 Super, 2017, and 2070 Super cards and, as of today, costing $100 less??...

Re: All Games Crash to Desktop/Freeze (SOLVED)

Ugh. I wasn't receiving email notifications to the topic. Sorry for the late reply. Thanks to everyone for helping! It turns out the Windows memory tester is a load of garbage. I luckily had another identical set of memory in my Ryzen 7 build and swapped it out, no more crashes! I will use Prime95 o...

All Games Crash to Desktop/Freeze

Hello, I recently built a new system, details is signature, and for the most part haven't experienced issues except for when gaming. The problem is some games crash after 5-10 minutes (The Division, R6 Siege), some after 15-30 minutes (BF1, Prey). The Division and Siege crash to desktop with no erro...

Re: MSI Z270 M3: No Video On Secondary Boots

Thanks for the reply. BIOS is up to date and there is no option to disable the IGP in the MSI BIOS. The graphics options in the BIOS are PEG or IGP, set to PEG. The board is supposed to detect the GPU, use that, and automatically disable the IGP however it fails to do that on anything other than the...

MSI Z270 M3: No Video On Secondary Boots

First boot of this system works fine. If I completely shut down and then power on my system, no video. No more video until I reset the BIOS. I tried using the HDMI out on the mother board, also no video. SUPER. ANNOYING. Note: If I remove the GPU the MoBo video out works as normal. This is the secon...

Re: Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

I did reattach my heatsink/fan when I uninstalled the Corsair H100i in P280 case and there was no change in heat/noise, I doubt the move made a difference in heatseank performance. Didn't change any UEFI settings. I can believe the dead spots and bad circulation theory; the P280 seems a little bigge...

Re: Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

Alright so I've come to the conclusion my computer is **** with me.    I moved everything over to the Silent Base 600 and boy is it quiet! I can no longer hear the CPU fan at all! BUT my idle temperatures are about 45 degrees for both the CPU and GPU, up 10 degrees! So now my GPU gets REALLY h...

Nothing fancy. FRAPS is good enough. I haven't used it's video recording but FPS logging and screenshots work well for me.

Re: Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

Make sure the BIOS is not unnecessarily overvolting the CPU.  This is a big generator of heat. What he said. You'd be surprised at how many stunts modern motherboards do in their "auto" settings. Already checked this and set all voltages manually. Noted in my earlier post today. No change...

Re: Disappointed with GTX 1070 Performance, Possible throttling issue?

Your CPU may be the bottleneck rather than the bandwidth to the card. @Chrispy_ is on point. Do you have before/after benchmark numbers? I recently upgraded my brothers machine with a Asus 1070 Turbo from a 780 Reference and he is getting double minimum and average FPS at 1080p in Dying Light; he ha...

Re: Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

Thanks for all the replies guys. No change after confirming stock voltages. Ended up returning the H100. I also set the UEFI fan settings to max for fun, and yea the noise ramps up on YouTube videos. . Set back to lowest. @Heretic: I'm going to try the 7-Zip benchmarks as suggested to 100% co...

Re: Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

Thanks for the input. Case fans are the ones it came with Antec 2 Speed, probably ****: connected to the fan power hub set to Low or High they don't sound loud or bad. Forgot to mention UEFI settings are set to the lowest fan speeds as well. Lowest fan speed for CPU set. I also set the maximum tempe...

Intel 3770K, Hot CPU?

I give up. I have a 3770K and can't keep the damn thing quiet; I'm not even overclocking. I had a Noctua NH-U14 with the low noise adapter hitting 65C sounding like a jet engine while gaming. I decided to get a Corsair H100i V2 and now things are worse! It's just as loud but hot air exhausts upwards...

Coil Whine Info/Fix

All, I recently decided to take two computer systems and create a single dual boot system. I now have one system with a dual boot, DAW and gaming, and the other system ready for streaming downstairs. Anyway, I use to get coil whine from my EVGA GTX 780 but ever since I hooked up my gaming computer t...

The 4K Experience

Hello All, I'd like to see a TR article, or forum post, related to gaming at a 4K resolution. I currently game at 1920 x 1080 on a 27" monitor. It looks like 4K, 27" monitors are becoming affordable but I am unsure what the experience is like. Some of the things I'd like to see are: Screen...

Re: PC Gaming In The Living Room?

A lot of good info here! This morning I was put off after reading a few reviews about input lag. Frame skip, network lag, wireless lag, and then straight up "input lag" because the TV wants to do some processing? Depressing. http://www.techradar.com/us/news/television/tv/top-7-gaming-tvs-f...

Re: PC Gaming In The Living Room?

Yea I would have to go wireless. Maybe get some sort of adjustable mini table to put my keyboard and mouse on for when I play shooters. Thanks for the info C-A_99. I don't play competitively anymore but a smooth and responsive gaming experience is ideal. That may be the "deal breaker" for ...

PC Gaming In The Living Room?

So I am thinking about moving my system into the living room to game. Anything I should be aware of, aside from response times, about TVs? I currently game at 1920x1080 on my monitors and hope I can make the jump to a ~50" TV at the same resolution and have a nice experience. Most of the time w...

Re: Mobile DAW? HELP!

I will be hooking up my M-Audio Profire 610 and recording 2 tracks at most more than likely. Firewire is a definite must of course. Recording at 24bit 96kHz and I use ProTools LE 8.0.3, Adoby Audition 3.0 & 1.5, and SOny Acid 7.0c. Audition 3.0 runs WAY faster than 1.5 so I believe that one is m...

Ok...seems to be a bit of confusion. The thread was not really about upgrading for Crysis, but for maybe a future game that would be the same, system crushing. I was also trying to get some information as to see if my CPU would be a bottleneck which nobody has commented on so I assume it is not an i...

Re: Help! 9800GX2 Vs GTX 260 Core 216 SLI?

<broken_record> Using Crysis as a benchmark is foolish in my eyes. It doesn't scale as it should, unlike pretty much anything else </broken_record> True...but none of my estimated performance differences between the two cards in my original post were derived from Crysis benchmarks...I just listed t...

Re: 9800 vs 8800

Prodigy2K7 I am sure you know by now because of the input from other users; but they are basically the same card. Just a smaller die, which amounts to less heat and power consumption. I would also think you could OC the 9800 a little more than the 8800 because of that. If you get that 9800GTX+ for y...

Re: Help! 9800GX2 Vs GTX 260 Core 216 SLI?

Sounds like you should go for it. HOWEVER: Your lack of OC is quite likely due to heat. While going from a GX2 to a single 260 will help, you might want to look into your case temps, ventilation, and airflow. Thanx for the info. The thing is, I have a Cooler Master CM690. I have two 140mm in the up...

Help! 9800GX2 Vs GTX 260 Core 216 SLI?

Hello, I currently have a 9800GX2 and was unhappy with it up until recently. I applied for the EVGA step up program and wanted to go for the new GTX 260 Core 216. Was considering getting SLI in a month or so on that card. The new 178.24 drivers have resolved my issues of heat and GPU overclocking wi...

Re: 9600 GT Anyone had problems?

9600GT is an excellent card. If you have a large display, then consider getting something else. I run at 1920x1200 on a 26" Samsung and the card does not work for me. My brother has one in his 19" 1440x900 system and is able to run Crysis with everything set on High at 28FPS with a cheap 2...

Re: High Resolution GPU Solutions

NICE LINK! I was suspecting that, maybe, performance was so low for Crysis at 19200x1200 on the 9600GT SLIx2 that they didn't bother to upload it, but I don't see why they left it out of the ATI 48XX reviews in other games since it performs better than the single cards. As for playing Crysis at 1900...

Hello TR Forums, this is my first post! I would like to share my "research" and receive some comments for my solution. I recently built a new high end PC and am having a bit of a dilema. I did a bit of research before buying my GPU and decided to get two 9600GT's. In the TR benchmarks I ha...
