Re: When you're desperate for a product idea...

Names are important. From a linguistic sense, one of the reasons we name things is so that we can group similar things together. If a name like "cloud" is so poorly defined so as to be useless for this purpose, then the name offers no real informational value. If I hold up a pencil and in...

Re: When you're desperate for a product idea...

I may be putting words in his mouth here, but I think he's saying that "cloud" implies that if your own 'net connection is down, you can still get at your data from somewhere else on the 'net. The "single point of failure" concern is a valid one too. We don't even know the forma...

And the remote access features listed in the specs page you posted wouldn't fall under that? Again, I'm really confused what the issue is here.

Re: When you're desperate for a product idea...

If it's priced fair for the features it offers it doesn't really matter how they brand it. That said, it is kind of implied with "Cloud" that you can still access it if your network goes down. Unless you have redundant internet connections in your home, this does not qualify. I'm not sure...

Re: When you're desperate for a product idea...

I'm confused about what's so offensive about this device other than the naming and I find it very hard to get upset about a company using the term "cloud" liberally when everyone does that already. If Dropbox and the like is considered a "cloud" service then why would having such...

Re: Best cooling system

You'd be much better off putting money into a faster processor than spending more than $30 on a heatsink solution. You can get excellent overclocking results from reasonably priced tower heatsinks these days, higher end solutions are wasteful unless you're already buying high end gear (and even then...

Personally, I wouldn't buy any of those laptops if you plan on using them often. They're all too heavy in my opinion. Ideally I like a laptop that weighs under 4lbs if you plan on having it with you all day, every day. By itself the laptop isn't much in a back pack, but with books and other things y...

I finally cracked and bought Blast On's Player Pro last night. It's the best music player I've tried in the market and the stock Music app on my Atrix 4G is AWFUL and was some how made even worse (much worse actually) with the 2.3 update.

Out of curiosity, are you dead-set on that PSU? It's listed at $120 on Newegg, but I know that you can find similarly priced units from higher quality brands and with greater efficiency ratings. From a cursory search I found the following: Thermaltake 850W with 80PlusBronze certification http://www...

Re: The time has come.

You should verify that the motherboard you're buying won't have any issues with your heatsink. That is, when I had my mITX rig the CPU socket was close to the PCIe x16 slot. Larger blow-down style coolers would extend out far enough from the CPU socket that they would block the expansion slot. In my...

Re: My thoughts on the 775 push pin cooler

Both mounting mechanisms suck to be honest. The push pins are obviously horrible on your first go around, but I didn't think they were that big of a deal. You just have to pay attention, maybe even try glancing at the instructions for the recommendation technique. AMD still not using a square design...

I stopped playing shortly after Cata made everything a joke. I grew out of it I guess. Also the constant PvP buff this, no wait nerf it, no wait buff it! approach was awful. I quit the game and wiped my phone thus losing the authentication and any way of playing it again. About 15 minutes on the ph...

I have a 3Mbit connection. About the only time I feel the desire for a faster connection is when I buy something on Steam. Otherwise I can't really recall when my normal usage would benefit from paying $30 more a month for a 15Mbit connection. I'm more jealous of the guys posting from across the pon...

Buy a laptop with the best touchpad you can find, everything else is noise as long as the performance satisfies your needs. The best one I've ever used is on the MacBooks and its by a far margin, but I can't stand OSX. If you can that would be my recommendation.

There is no trade off with owning a smartphone other than cost. If you don't want to be reached; turn it off. You still have it in case of emergency. If you don't want to be constantly infiltrated with status updates and tweets then simply remove those applications from your smartphones notification...

I think his point was that publishers consistently take part in anti-consumer behavior and that's what "causes" piracy, not that DLC specifically has been the cause. I know he's crazy, but I think you guys have twisted his intentions a bit.

Re: Midrange discrete laptop graphics

The XPS 15z is likely never going to be available with a chip as powerful as the 560M. That would likely require a modification of the thermal design Dell wouldn't be willing to do until a major series refresh. HP offers several AMD graphics solutions up to the HD6770M, which are not as fast as the ...

If you think the features are worth the potential consequences of their nature (as is the nature of Zeitgeist and r...

Windows is far more stable in my experience than any distro of Linux I've tried. It's not even close to be honest. I tried running Ubuntu but at the end of the day I needed too many of the new features and all of those are ridiculously unstable.

The 4 Gig X360 is a freaking joke, and no sane person should ever buy one. On the contrary -- it's not glossy, and you can hack your own harddrive on the cheap with very little effort. But most important; it's not glossy . :) Um, the 4 gig and 250 gig models look exactly the same. They look the sam...
