That's awesome, the 1080Ti is a bit faster than the 660.

I got one of these because it's one of the only ones that does bluetooth as well. It's only n and the throughput is nothing to brag about but it gets the job done for 13 bucks. Edimax EW-7611ULB 2-in-1 N150 Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.0 Nano USB Adapter If you're serious about performance and have a spa...

Re: Which cpu to get?

For gaming the 8700K will be unbeatable. The 8600K would be pretty much the same in games but in the grand scheme the i7 isn't that much more expensive.

Re: Best motherboard for Netburst CPU?

My old 775 rig ran on a Gigabyte P35-DS3L . It was a very popular board and it never let me down. Still works. I always ran Conroe CPUs in it but it has official support for Pentium D which is Netburst iirc. Since it was so popular they are available on ebay pretty cheap. Note that it doesn't do RAI...

I guess I wasn't the only one.... Check this article about Carrizo. https://www.extremetech.com/computing/222662-poor-oem-designs-single-channel-ram-sabotage-amds-carrizo This was not an Intel conspiracy or anything. The reason Carrizo failed is explicitly stated in that article. The reason for thi...

Re: 3770K, when to upgrade?

Whether you'll really notice a difference from a CPU upgrade depends on what resolution and settings you like to play games at. If you run your GTX 970 at 1920x1080 with medium to high settings (prioritizing high refresh rates) you will notice the largest difference from a CPU upgrade. If you play ...

3770K, when to upgrade?

I've seen folks stating pretty noticeable improvements in frametime consistency going from the 2500K to a modern Skylake or Kaby. My 3770K (@4GHz) is pretty old now. Do you guys think I would notice much difference going to a 7700K (my LCD goes to 60Hz)? I guess I'm asking where is the cutoff that w...

I always try to find the fastest memory at the default voltage. I keep my machines for a very long time and this has worked well for me.

Our best one was in a development lab.  Someone plugged a switch into the wall.  Later, they daisy-chained a second switch.  At some point after that, a second person was trying to figure out why something wasn't working and looked at the second switch.  "Oh, it's not connected to the corporat...

Oh, and you do have managed switches all the way out to the perimeter, yes? Its necessary for the above to work well and it lets you determine when someone has brought in their own networking gear.  You will see multiple active MAC addresses on a single port, where their shouldn't be. I happen to l...

I have a friend suggesting, in a new building my company is moving to, that I assign IP addresses--on a per line basis--to the cube farm in the building. Setting up a grid of sorts so that we would just know which IP a cube had. At the physical layer, I already have things mapped out from the previ...

Since Rory Read claimed to be taking AMD in a different direction, one that included markets outside the PC I was very skeptical. However, if you look at what areas of business comprise the whole of the company you'll see that only 1/3 of its revenue comes from the PC market. This is a drastic chan...

Re: Elon Musk thinks we live in the "Matrix"..

The nature of the problem (that we exist in the simulation) makes it likely impossible to prove that our world is indeed a simulation. Ergo, such "problems" can never rise to the level of science and must, therefore, remain in the realm of metaphysics. It's really no different than the En...

I think you are reading too much metaphysics and/or dropping too much acid. You remind me of a guy in my high school physics class. Re: Elon Musk thinks we live in the "Matrix"..

Based on what we know of the universe at a quantum level (especially from the double slit experiment with delayed erasure , confirming that consciousness creates reality rather than the other way around), it isn't much of a stretch to consider that our reality is a simulation of some sort. I know of...
