what happened to TR?

I'm not sure when it happened, as I don't frequent the main page all too often but...what has happened to TR? Am I the only one that thinks the new frontpage is a huge step backwards? All of the shortbread news is buried in a separate link (or it was...you can only see them in the old page, and they...

if at all possible, try it out first before buying. they do sell chairs at staples / office max / office depot if you're in the states, but i found them to be lackluster for the most part.

this is why i won't ever buy samsung monitors again...although i guess it doesn't matter. crappy components in everything, probably. i had to replace the cheapo caps in my samsung monitor as well. that was several years ago, and it's doing just fine today. hopefully you got quality caps that will ac...

Re: Will gigabyte 530 a be enough for RX 480

in short, yes, it will be fine. this is a very easy question to answer for yourself, though. simply find a video card review that tests power consumption at load (most reviews do that these days). more often than not, these reviews will use a high-end cpu to minimize cpu bottlenecks, so you don't ne...

Re: Are you buying a RX 480?

i'd like to, but they're not making it easy. occasionally you see the 8gb model at the $240 price point, but it's not typical. it's hard to justify $260-$270 480 8gb cards vs $250 nvidia 1060 6gb cards.

i have an older kingston v100+ drive (different controller). it works fine (and has for a couple of years i've had it), and was a huge step up from a mechanical hard drive.

Re: Is throttling acceptable?

well, my desktop is watercooled so i don't have to worry about this. i think throttling is fine though, but in certain situations. for instance, if your cpu / gpu reaches a "max" temp threshold, throttling down to prevent damage would be better than not throttling and causing hard locks / ...

Re: PSU advice needed! Any help wanted!

PSU shopping is simple. Look for a review of your card here on TR and go to the power results ( here's one ). See what the full load is, then double that and that's the wattage you should get for your PSU. So for your system, you could go with a 400-450w PSU no problem. However, you should me mindfu...

ha, i did that myself. i went from a 4890 to a 7870. cyber monday deals, man...best time to buy stuff. nice performance boost, and i paid less for the 7870 than i did for the 4890. it's amazing what you can get today for relatively little cash compared to what you could get just two years ago.

some people overclock for the sake of overclocking; you do it because you can. it's a hobby of sorts. anyway, i looked at the results for farcry 3 and crysis 3 (since that engine is most relevant to me). they didn't really do the testing justice. they showed the data for the lowest quality (oc made ...

what looks great? do they have a product to show? instead of spamming, maybe wait until there's an actual product that you have personal experience with and / or a website reviewed it.

Re: Getting a HD7850, worried about some issues

if you look at tr's 7850 review, you'll see it top out at 182 watts (for the xfx version) under load (they used a core i5-750, 4 gig ram). a power supply is typically most efficient at 50% load, so your 450 watter should be fine. i can't help you with your other concerns.
