Re: inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

Hey, so I have an update The DVI cable does seem to be dead actually, but replacing it did not solve my issue. I opted to spend $40 and have Canada Computers diagnose the problem. After three days of testing the found that: my GTX 570 is dead, no question my Power supply is working but the current i...

my thoughts exactly, I wouldn't think any kind of DVI disconnect would get a device d/c sound, would it?

Re: inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

"device disconnect" noise and a black screen does indicate either a monitor fault or dodgy cable. The fuzzy corrupted BIOS image with another graphics card reinforces that theory, though it is just a theory. sorry I mustn't have been clear. Everything you mentioned happened with a single ...

would be lovely if it were that simple. All this time it was the graphics card and this is a totally unrelated issue, I'll test that when I get home.

Re: inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

Even without an IGP, video cabling issues could cause it to not see the monitor. sorry, forgot to mention when you asked about reseating, the first thing I did when I saw the blank screen was reseat my DVI cable at both ends, when I get a bit more time I'll test with a different monitor but given t...

Re: inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

I had some slightly similar issues when first building my Z87 rig. The system would POST and load Windows, but I'd only see a black screen. It turned out that for unknown reasons the motherboard was sending the video out through the 4770K's IGP instead of the GTX 480 in the main graphics slot. I do...

Re: inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

I have not reseated my CPU/cooler, sound card, or case/fan cables, everything else has been reseated. I unfortunately do not have a spare PSU. I ran some memory diagnostics back before my initial reformat and they came up clean. I'm likely going to throw $40 at my local computer shop to see if they ...

inconsistent hardware problem frustration!

So at this point I’m convinced that something in my computer is cursed, inhabited by an evil entity whose goal is to create as annoying a hardware issue as possible. … Seriously though, the issues I’m having are driving me up the wall. So about a month ago my machine started having issues after I di...

Generally I find that in cases of serious OS damage or corruption it's not so useful, but usually it works wonders for bad driver installs and viruses.

Re: did some tinkering, pretty sure I corrupted my OS

hrm,, so just before turning off my computer to start reinstalling windows I got that black screen error again, and for the second time it resulted in the corrupted image. I had a chance to observe it better, it's 4 copies of the displayed image, each copy is about 25% the width/height of the monito...

Re: did some tinkering, pretty sure I corrupted my OS

Are you monitoring your temps? Also, are you sure default bios settings are stable? e.g. memory timings. temps are fine, nothing abnormal with anything I can see, and my bios settings have always been 95% default, still I did think to check RAM timings and they look fine, plus memtest should catch ...

nope, nevermind, system was stable for several hours but then did the same freeze as before.

I"m going to reinstall windows and hopefully that'll fix the issue, if it turns out to be a hardware problem, which part do you think is the culprit?

Re: did some tinkering, pretty sure I corrupted my OS

Mainly due to my reluctance to spending half a day reinstalling, i've been doing some other stuff. I cleared CMOS again (this time through BIOS menu, keeps things like the date) and did another restore point, the system seems more stable but I got another freeze crash. Fortunately I had resource mon...

Re: did some tinkering, pretty sure I corrupted my OS

Odd, i've run sfc (handy command, never knew about it) and it came up clean. I'm honestly pretty clueless then, I would hope none of my hardware is damaged, but it still seems so odd that i've not encountered any issues outside of windows. Also, I used Asus Ai suite to adjust voltage, was just decre...

did some tinkering, pretty sure I corrupted my OS

posted in general because i'm not 100% sure it's a software issue. Basically, long story short, I fiddled with some CPU profiling (lowered voltage slightly, then decided against it) rebooted, and now my OS doesn't work in a variety of wonderful ways, but i'm not completely sure what's causing it. Mo...

I bought this: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=141161911922 for $500 Can in my hands. Pleased, it's just a 70Hz max thing but cheap, and runs Elder Scrolls Online very well. Sweet, good colours, and plays ESO so well, with my new GTX 780.. hmm, while I appreciate I can get a K...

Looking for new monitor, thoughts on 30" Nixeus VUE?

I'm in the market for a new monitor to replace my BenQ FP241W, and was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Nixeus VUE 30"? It's on sale this weekend at NCIX for $650, and seems to fit my goal of getting the largest possible 16:10 monitor with north american customer support for ~$70...

Re: No display on monitor. Not sure how to proceed?

Consider trying the card in your motherboard's other PCI-E slot. From my experience GPU fans spin up when the card is only receiving power from the PCI-E slot, so the inverse (the fan won't spin when receiving no power over PCI-E, but is still getting power from PSU conenctors) may be true. Fans spi...

Re: Computer Problems

It did have a connected speaker actually, but the motherboard was shorting in some way which didn't even allow the motherboard to attempt post, let alone fail to post, so the speaker never gave a signal.

I've had some more tests done and its the motherboard. Power supply chugs along fine when put in another system. Oh well, off to the ASUS RMA dep...

Re: Laptop for Runescape & Minecraft??

A discrete GPU makes a big difference on Runescape. Just have to enable DirectX rendering under graphics options. And to 00-Evan, they're making a lot of changes to make it seem like it'll be around for a while. Whether those changes percolate to f2p, well.... probably not, but still. I think the g...

Re: Laptop for Runescape & Minecraft??

RuneScape does utilize the GPU and will see a benefit from a dedicated card, however both games should operate tolerably on the integrated. hope your family enjoys RuneScape while it lasts though, recent developments in that game make it seem an awful lot like it won't be around much longer, very sad.

Re: Logitech G51 speaker trouble.

Well it's a bit odd that it's fatigue, the speakers have hardly ever been moved and have plenty of clearance at the jack, just bad luck I guess.

If I was to get a replacement part, would it be a replacement to the whole satellite, or a part of the satellite?

Re: Logitech G51 speaker trouble.

okay, and then I'm guessing that triggering that protection mechanism over and over would cause the sort of damage I'm seeing in the satellite then? How can I repair the weak satellite, replace the amplifier in it, or is it unrecoverable? Also, if the connection has gone bad for that one jack, would...

Re: Logitech G51 speaker trouble.

Okay problem's changed, now instead of popping the right surround has gone completely lame, it plays audio but just barely, and if I try to increase the volume much I just get this raspy noise. The worst part is that it seems to be the satellite now, not the connection. The back right satellite has ...

Re: Logitech G51 speaker trouble.

The cable is fine, the speaker which goes buggy is the one that's connected to the port that's meant for the right surround speaker, I've tried switching satellites and the issue always carries to the satellite that's connected to that port. I'm not very experienced with audio hardware but it seems ...

oh, yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that. If I switch the left and right surround speaker, the problem switches too, meaning that the problem seems to be at the subwoofer where the speaker connects.Could I fix this if I opened the subwoofer (assuming that's possible)?

Hey Gerbils, once again I reemerge from lurking to ask for your help =S, My speaker system is on the fritz.
