Re: Official Borderlands Game Thread

I picked up a sweet orange shotgun last night at lvl 19 right after the mines. 57dmg x9, 60ish acc. 1.5 fire rate, 2x explosive and a 4x zoom, definitely the best shotgun I've seen so far. It was the item of the day at the weapons booth and it cost me almost all my cash 43g's. I'm not too sure that ...

Re: Official Borderlands Game Thread

seems that if the host quits the game before everyone else has you're character doesn't get saved. This happened a few times last night. Also, is anyone else having trouble hosting private games? Only two of the 4 people i played with last night could host. This brings up all kinds of issues if anyo...

Re: Safely Remove Hardware icon in windows 7

I may not be able to remove my system drive, but my 2nd internal drive is still up for grabs. The policy tab only lets me choose between "quick removal" which doesn't cache disk writes and "better performance" which does cache. Better performance is the default on all of my drives.

Safely Remove Hardware icon in windows 7

So I just installed windows 7 and to my great surprise my eSata external drive now appears in the in list of items I can eject under the "safely remove hardware" icon in the task bar. I couldn't get this to work at all in vista so I'm pretty happy that I'm noticing improvements in windows7...

hrmm.... today the studio 14z dells are only $184 off... but still cost $699...

This sort of false advertising has to be illegal...

Its also lost its "deal of the day" sticker in favor of a "brand new!" sticker

don't be fooled by the "day of deals" thing on the studio 14z. I've been looking at buying one for a few weeks now and its always been $699 to start - with or without the "deal of the day" sticker. You'll notice pretty much everything at dell.com has instant savings - it just mak...

Re: New Laptop

I guess I was unclear, I mentioned not having an OS as a possible way to save money. Not necessarily as a requirement. Both of those options look pretty good. Neither specify a screen type, does anyone know if they are matted or glossy? Also does anyone have experience with a 9100M G and what they c...

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into acer a bit more.

Does anyone know how well the GMA shared mem graphics work? I assume that they aren't very good... but could they run spore / sims3 type games decently?

New Laptop

I'm in the market for a new laptop for my fiancee. She generally uses her computer for office tasks - word, excel, web browsing, email - but also likes to play games like the sims and spore and use iTunes. She has an old HP laptop that can barely handle iTunes and word at the same time and its time ...

Re: ATI HD4870 + Accelero S1 - a tale of woe and desperation.

Morphine,
I'm having a problem that maybe related to yours but with a 4850 and the accelero. I'm getting BSOD crashes that seem to be heat related but my CPU and GPU temp readings should be fine. Can you describe what the VRMs on your card look like?

Re: sudden BSOD crashes

We've had other reports of problems with that GPU cooling system -- the GPU stays cool, but the VRMs do not. It may be your extra 120mm fan was sufficient to keep that problem in check until ambient temps got too high. I read that other post and was wondering the same thing. I believe I have the he...

Re: Sapphire dual-slot 4850 + Accelero S1?

i have an accelero s1 rev2 on my 4850, works great and fits nicely on the card but it is big and does take up a lot of room in my case... partially because i zip tied a nice and quiet 120mm fan to it.

Re: Need a new gaming monitor

I just got the Benq G2400WD which I believe is also a TN monitor and I couldn't be happier. TN panels are generally the cheapest and fastest LCD's out there and unless you do a lot of graphic design/photo editing a TN panel will be fine. If you're gaming keep in mind that a lot of the other "be...

I also got a free 32bit copy of vista from school and I was able to get a 64bit replacement disk from microsoft for $10 and about 2 weeks of waiting. Just go to the link and input your cd key... it doesn't hurt to try.

Hmm...that sounds like something that is occurring when the system goes into power-saving mode. Possibly it's losing track of which output is which, for some reason. Physically switching the ports might help. Yeah I'm going to try that when i get home from work... if that doesn't work I might try d...

Dual Monitor gaming

I just bought a new monitor and I set it up with my desktop extended onto my old monitor. I'm running Vista64 and wondering if there is anyway to have a full screen game running on 1 monitor and web browsing /chats on the 2nd monitor - transferring mouse focus w/o minimizing the game. So far my sear...
