Re: How to get dual monitors working properly?

In general, no, but it depends on a lot of things - OS, what are you connected it to and how (direct to machine through DP/HDMI, using a dock, or converter). For instance, I used a Dell Latitude for work and connect and have three screens connected - two using DVI to DP converters into the Dell dock...

I bought a 4 pack of Sengled A19 color changing bulbs. I bought a starter pack of three last year on Cyber Monday and really liked them. This price is cheaper by a good bit per bulb. I plan to use them for Halloween (and the supplement what I already use for Christmas).

Yeah, but how much can you trust anyone who’s trying to sell you something? Enough for me to keep buying from them, anyway. All I can say is that they've yet to lead me wrong and I've been buying from them since before e-commerce. Wholeheartedly agree. I've been using them for a while and ha...

Re: Enterprise Server help

The performance statistics will give you bounds. Are you CPU constrained? How much memory is the system really using (the Hypervisor has very little affect on this)? Are you using more Read IOPS, Write IOPS, or is it mixed? Are you truly multi-threaded? Modern hypervisors also are really close to ba...

Re: Enterprise Server help

So first, I would actually measure your existing performance. Perfmon can record data to a file and you can look at CPU, Memory, and disk performance. I would look at the following counters: Memory: Available Bytes, Committed Bytes (will show how much memory is free and in use) Logical Disk: Current...

A permanent allocation would be basically impossible, yes, however, in all reality, for this to work, we would only be talking a bout a single 3 hour allocation (give or take), which will still be absurdly hard, and is still a lot of water, however, at least, not quite the Herculean effort as a per...

How about these? Both right around $1,000, 500GB SSD, 8GB RAM. Ideally I'd bump up the ram, though for your use it probably won't matter much (except for lots of browser tabs). You can also easily add/change RAM later. Also, a NVM SSD would be better (and a more brand name one) but if it doesn't fit...

It could be the version of SMB. WIndows 10 only allows access to SMB v2 and above. Windows 7 should default to SMB 2.1 but it's worth checking: On your Windows 7 box open powershell with admin permissions (right-click powershell, run as administrator) and then run the following command: get-smbconne...

Haven't really kept up with it, but I imagine SMB V1 has a lot of potential security vulnerabilities? Going off on a tangent, you'd be surprised how much RS-232 serial is still used behind the scenes. A lot of modern devices still have hidden RS-232 functionality on an internal connector (or at lea...

Not as old as some of the stuff on this thread, but in the last month two of our development teams escalated two separate issues that they couldn't connect to SMB shares through their custom java code. The problem was their libraries (in both instances) only supported SMB v1. One effort was a new ef...

Are you installing Windows 10 and planning on using Bitlocker (or other whole disk encryption software?) If so then you should get this. If not, then it doesn't do anything for you.

You would need to provide your chosen motherboard/manufacturer to find a compatible TPM - as th...
