Re: Best books/sites to learn Python and Perl?

Codeacademy is an excellent resource to teach you step by step instructions and I enjoy it quite thoroughly. I agree with JBI that you need to pick something that interest you to learn. I used a website called https://projecteuler.net/ It has math problems that get increasingly difficult as you go m...

Like others have said go see a doctor. A coworker of mine about 10 years ago had to stop drinking coffee because she got a massive ucler due to the acidity of the coffee. Get it checked out before it can possibly get to that level.

Re: How to read RS232 Data in Real Time on PC?

FTDI does make the best adapter chips. I swear buy them. Go to digikey or mouser and look for some RS232 connectors there. Also, look into Realterm for initial starting and basic tasks if you are on a windows system. I use both of them at work all the time.

Re: Virtualization Server advice

Yes. If you are 32GB RAM with 1 processor the license for ESXi is free unless you want support. Does your budget include the Windows licensing? If it is $5,000 I would definitely use intel processor especially if you run ESXi. ESXi to me seems to be the pickiest about hardware for virtualization in ...

Re: Virtualization Server advice

I have a few questions for you. 1) What price range are you looking at for the server? Is power efficiency a requirement? Based on your specs of 64gb you definitely are looking LGA2011 or AMD Opterons depending on cost or operating cost because the intel's are more expensive up front but cheaper to ...

Re: Program Organization/ Array's vs Structs etc

So how is the data ordered in the stream from the serial line? Is it like: voltage(1), current(1), status(1), ... voltage(2), current(2)...? Is the buffer big enough for all data from one battery? Since this is a DSP embedded system, is C++ even available? Structs should be better readability wise,...

Re: Program Organization/ Array's vs Structs etc

The data stream is sent out via RS232 on a serial bus and basically I am filling unsigned bytes one by one to a buffer. The buffer is 16 bytes then I have send the stream and clear the buffer in order to fill the buffer with the next 16 bytes and so on and so forth. In total I have 351 + 2 checksumb...

Program Organization/ Array's vs Structs etc

I got a couple of programming questions that I thought I could get some help here. I am programming in C, and I am trying to determine if I am better off using Structures or Array's to store and present the data. Currently I am using array's but it is getting to be a pain to keep track of everything...

I just looked through pfsense for a bit, it doesn't look like it has QoS beyond the norm that is found in most routers or DDWRT. About the most robust one is found in OpenTomato, which isn't anything exceptionally special. Really this is kind sad that in this day and age we don't have better soluti...

Let me chime in a bit since I have been in similar situation. One quick question: Is it the wireless bandwidth that is choking you? (hardwired all the connections and tested it that way and had the same results?) The reason I ask that is with these crappy cable modems, a lot of wireless connections ...

Re: Review Request: Good cooling reduces power consumption?

Except in this case, it is the lower-wattage unit with the lower temperature. So how do you separate cause from effect? Is the wattage lower *because* of the lower temperature? Or is the chip drawing less power due to natural variation from chip-to-chip, differences in the on-card BIOS, slight vari...

Re: Review Request: Good cooling reduces power consumption?

This absolutely happens. What really happens though is the resistance in the circuit/component increases with heat (Thermal resistance). Most electronic components have whats called a "R theta" (Change in resistance) or a P_d, (Power Disipation) and both are measured in Celcius/Watt and Wa...

If he was using them for bit coin mining that means those cards were on 24/7, possibly overclocked. I would also test Heaven benchmark http://unigine.com/products/heaven/ or F@H. I find that sometimes Heaven will cause instability quicker than Furmark. Power usage is fairly similar though.

Run Furmark + LinX for the maximum power consumption.

With two GPU's + CPU a single double radiator won't be enough. You are going to want at least either a triple radiators or a two double radiators. Now may I ask the question why you are planning on buying two mid-range GPU's rather than 1 high performance GPU? (Either the 6950,6970,570,580?) CF/SLI ...

Re: Im looking for advice for watercooling kits

The Rasa kits are the way to go if you want to go with a kit. The swiftech kits are overpriced imho. I got the RX360 series. It costs about $200 on jab-tech. If you want to cool a GPU your going to want a minimum of a 360 Rad. You maybe able to get away with a RX240 but I would opt for the RX360. Th...
