Re: Worth Upgrading GPU?

I'm in a similar boat, but with a 3 series i5 and 32 GB RAM DDR3 which I don't want to have to replace with expensive DDR4. Good news - you are losing, maybe, 10 frames per second with our current CPUs. They aren't slow - they just aren't as fast as modern CPUs. Have you overclocked your CPU - there...

Re: RTX 2080 / Ti similar to iPhone X launch?

Yeah the value in the 2080 series is weak. I bought a new EVGA custom cooler GTX 1080 for just under $400 last week. It supposedly comes with Destiny 2 and DLC as well. I couldn't justify purchasing the 2080 when it might be 30% faster, but it is about 80% more expensive.

Re: Nvidia Turing GTX1180 Rumors

The same way they do every other release. The faster chips will be priced at a point that makes performance per $ slightly more attractive. If it is 50% more powerful, expect to pay 30%+ more. Gone are the days of them holding a price point and just giving us extra power for the same price. That's w...

On the ancient version of IE that my company uses (the version that now almost every site says needs to be upgraded) the fonts look as crisp and pixelated as ever.

...I think I would rather be using Edge.

If these cards really do come out near 980 GTX performance for $200, it is going to put downward pressure on Nvidia... and that is EXACTLY what I want. :D

I have 4 sets of over the ear / enclosed headphones. Buy the MDR-7506s. You will love them. They are the best bang for the buck headphones you can purchase. I'm sure the ATH-M50x are a nice set too, just a little more pricey. PS Under no circumstances purchase the MDR-10Rs. These are Beats style bas...

Maybe the same here - I just bought a 960 for $220 a few months ago, so getting double the performance for about the same price is a bargain in my book.

Don't think of it as upgrading early and missing out on first gen Pascal, think of it as buying a really good price/performance card as a bridge to Pascal 2.

Re: The Case Against Pre-Orders

I have a different strategy. In a world where publishers want pre-orders, they pull forward demand. That leaves a gap once the game has been released and publishers respond by lowering prices. That means that relatively new games get cheap quickly. Great games from only a year ago fall into the barg...

Re: Switched back to my CRT... am I insane?

You are free to do whatever you want. For me, I wouldn't go back to CRT. I'm staring at an IPS display that is crisp, high resolution, has great color and has great blacks. The black on the advert above doesn't look washed out to me and it is clearly more black than the black bezel. Maybe it isn't a...

Re: Is the Geforce 980 Ti worth it?

Hey Don't get me wrong when I said it wasn't worth it, I was talking about timing. Each year or so they release a new breed of graphics card BUT they hold the price relatively flat until the next set of cards come out. To me, I find that it is best to buy just after a new card has been released. As ...

No, it is not.

You should wait just a tad longer (into early next year) and get Pascal.

I wouldn't think you would need to upgrade your PSU but I defer to those with more experience.

3 things are really going to drive your perception of performance - a decent CPU so that you have a snappy response (every time I've overclocked my CPU I've been able to feel the difference) - an SSD so that stuff loads quickly (you'll be amazed at how satisfying a fast boot time is) - a decent GPU ...

Re: DOTA 2 Sucks?

That is not how Dota 2 works. If you die once, you should play more defensively - pull the creep wave, stay nearer to your tower, make sure you understand what your escape mechanism is (do you have a stun?). Did you buy the right starting items? A stout shield or maybe upgrade it to a poor mans shie...

Not, soon, but yes at some point in the future.

These are the things I am looking for:
- IPS
- 32"
- Able to be driven as single display, not two tiled
- less than $1000

Looks like we are almost there, but it probably needs another year to really mature.

Have to agree - I hadn't realized that prices for the 290 and 290X had fallen that much. The 290X for low $300s is a huge amount of performance for the price. The 290 for $285 is also a great deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150701

I have a 30" and a 27". Both are good monitors. I would get the 30" if it was my money. It is clearly superior. The 27" feels like an extra wide 24" (sit it next to a 16:10 24" and you'll see it is almost exactly the same height). In fact, I use it as a replacement for ...
