Re: ASUS is hiring enthusiasts for content marketing

Do you have any pull elsewhere than the marketing group?

I'm at least mildly interested in a Product position and might take you up on the offer if so.

Some, but we're staffed up on that side at the moment.

Re: ASUS is hiring enthusiasts for content marketing

No engineering R&D in the US, unfortunately. That's all handled in Taipei. Experience doesn't necessarily have to be formal. Being part of the TR community counts for something :) If you writing, technical chops, and photography transcend your on-paper experience, make the case in a cover letter...

ASUS is hiring enthusiasts for content marketing

Greetings Gerbils. Jeff has graciously allowed me to do a little shameless recruiting, so... We're growing our content marketing team at ASUS and have two full-time positions for tech-savvy enthusiasts with excellent writing, photography, and analytical skills. Naturally, the TR community came to mi...

TR Vancouver meetup planned for Sept. 28

We're planning an official TR meetup in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, September 28. Cyril and I will be in attendance, and we'll be giving away prizes along with some excess test hardware pulled from our labs. We'll select an appropriate venue based on how many folks plan to show up. I'm open to su...

Re: Tech Report's IOMeter Test Paterns

Feel free to shoot me an email if you'd like a copy of our IOMeter test file. The thing is, that file just defines the access patterns (request size, read/write distribution, randomness, etc...). You still have to configure the workers, concurrent I/O scaling, and test length manually.

Re: How gets power usage measured in SSD tests?

Out of interest, what level of accuracy do you expect to get from this test setup? (given resistor and meter tolerance). Is the same fixture used to test all drives, to ensure any error is consistent? We use the same resistor and meter for all our testing. The results should be reasonably accurate ...

Re: Tech Report's IOMeter Test Paterns

Our IOMeter tests run with one worker. They start with one concurrent I/O request and then ramp up from there. The test runs for three minutes for each I/O request tier. The number of workers is separate from the number of concurrent requests. Before any tests are run, IOMeter creates a single file ...

Re: How gets power usage measured in SSD tests?

We haven't changed our methods. Power consumption is still tested with the 0.1-ohm resistor. I'll make sure that detail's added to the test methods section of future storage reviews.

Re: Tech Report's IOMeter Test Paterns

IIRC, the file and web results were part of the original IOMeter package, while the database and workstation patterns came from StorageReview. I was going to summarize them here but, looking at them now, I see an awful lot of variables to detail. Shoot me an email and I can send you a copy of the co...

Re: Hey TR Eds: How come no Revodrives in sys guide/reviews?

The price premium commonly associated with PCIe SSDs makes them a tricky proposition for the guide. You give up capacity for performance, and we'd rather have more solid-state storage than a smaller SSD that might be faster. In day-to-day use, we haven't noticed as much of a difference between vario...

Were you intrigued by Bruno's account of Anomaly: Warzone Earth ? The indie strategy game puts tower defense in reverse, tasking the player with steering a convoy of units through enemy defenses. Bruno called the game prime rib at a bargain price, and now you have a chance to get in on the action ab...

Re: Riding a bicycle again

Bike seats are sort of counter-intuitive. If you have good shorts, the thinner seats are actually more comfortable than the wider ones because there's less to impede your pedalling motion. My junk is particularly fond of WTB's drop-nose saddles--specifically, the Rocket V: http://www.wtb.com/product...

We've given away plenty of swanky new graphics cards over the past few months here at TR. Now, we have a couple more—and we're going to make you work for them. MSI has graciously donated two of its N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II graphics cards for us to give away to a pair of lucky readers. On top of that...

Re: Should I build my own bike?

Being a huge bike geek (6 in the garage at the moment), I'll chime in here. It's not actually all that difficult to build a bike up from parts. Building wheels from scratch is a bit of an art, though, and specialized tools can be required to install certain components. Headsets come to mind. But the...

A request for Excel programming gurus

Color-coding bar graphs by manufacturer, model, or whatever, is a great way to make them more readable. However, it's royal pain, especially for hard drive reviews where I'm working with dozens of graphs and a deluge of results. Excel doesn't seem to have a mechanism to automatically color bars base...
