Re: That WannaCry ransomware

How does that work when these types of viruses may compromise XP or Win7 systems? Are the viruses blocked at the corporate firewall? At this point I'd hope that they're airgapped from production networks. At my last job, they had Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8 (before 8.1) all on the same networ...

Re: That WannaCry ransomware

That virus, or maybe worm, is vicious. It had multiple languages and everything. I had to check our tools and report up all the ways we can stop it, even though we are mostly patched (stale systems FTL). It's no joke. What make me sad I'd all the stories of health care being hit. You would think wi...

I know they provided the patch then, but that certainly does not mean every user or server is patched up.

Re: Your GPU Sucks: Unigine Superposition Released

My goal was to hit a score of 3000 and got to 3003! Core clock at 1500, and ram at 4001. Stock clocks are 1290/3505. Above 1500MHz, stability becomes a problem. Anyway, if you guys want me to add you in the sheet, please post the core clock and ram speed of your cards! Updated: http://linserv.biz.tm...

Re: AMD Ryzen 1800X temperature reading - subtract 20C???

I remember reading somewhere the max stable temp was 105c in AMD temps, so about 85c. With MX-4 paste and this cooler, my wife's stock clocked 1700x will hit 93c (or real 73c) after running prime95 for 15 min. I almost choked when I saw the temps jump to 90c. Checked the heatsink, checked everything...

Re: No Safe Site?

It's the ad servers that are typically the problem, if not virtually always. Thus a "safe site" would have to be one that doesn't run ads from any of the normal ecosystems, and such a site basically doesn't exist. Will an AD blocker give any protection? Well hey! My site is 100% ad, cooki...

Playing through Singularity for the...3rd time now? But this time on the Xbox 360 (first two times were on PC). I honestly think this was a gem of a story that fell through the cracks.

And on PC: Picked up Doom for $18 on steam.

I still have my Macbook (Late 2009). It cost me $799 new. It has an Ethernet port, built in DVD burner, 2x USB 2.0 ports, headphone jack, replaceable RAM and replaceable HDD/SDD.  Granted it is a Core 2 Duo at 2.23GHz...point it, why would I pay $1799 for no ports, no disc drive, and fixed ram/stora...

Well According to a French company, the PS4K is going to be released in late Sept as the PlayStation 4 Neo: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/playstation-4-neo-arrives-end-september.html Of note: That last bit is interesting as next-gen obviously suggests a new architecture and thus that in fact cou...

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

I once ran Skyrim on a WD Green drive, WD Black drive, an OCZ ssd, and from RAM. I then tried different loading points to get a metric of how fast the game loads on these devices. The HDDs were the slowest obviously, while the SSD was a massive jump over the HDDs. Yet the RAM only shaved off about a...

Maximum: 229.4 MB/s
Average: 169.4 MB/s

Re: 24' Aluminum Jet Boat Cost

Your best bet is to find a used SeaDoo 230 Challenger SE.  Twin 215HP supercharged Rotax jet units. and 23 1/2 feet long. I have no problem with that boat! But, I like in Alaska. I current have a 15' 1971 Trihull with a Mariner 60HP, and although I love this little guy, I'm hard limited on where/wh...

24' Aluminum Jet Boat Cost

Hey all you boaters out there! I'm feeling out the cost for having a 24ft jet boat built, and wanted to see if anyone here has had one built (or builds them), and what they paid. Oh my yes. After working on many original Xbox units, I don't know what Foxconn used for their thermal paste on the GPU, but it is rough, rough stuff. The only thing I was able to do was to heat up the paste with a blow gun, then use a credit card to remove it while warm. Then reheat and clean with ...

My home server is still powered by dual Xeon E5410 chips. Still does whatever I have requested from it (although slow at times). I don't see why I should upgrade. I still have my Power Mac G5 in the basement. Dual 2.0GHz unit. For quite a while, that machine would run laps around any of my friends Intel/AMD builds with AV work. I would gladly throw my Visa at Apple if they brought out a Power8 Mac Pro.
