isn't the "fresh start" option supposed to preserve your data? if so, that's the one i mean.

doesn't Windows 10 offer a "reset to default state and keep all your files" option? maybe give that a try. just remember to do a backup first, in case something goes sideways.

Re: The Guild Wars 2 performance mystery deepens.

Finally, some progress! Ok, so out of the case, new PSU, tests did nothing... on my current windows install. I was hesitant to try a fresh install just yet as I'm out of bandwidth until the 5th (soon my local electric coop will have unlimited internet with ftth... soon), but I just copied the GW2 d...

well, since you've already changed everything else, these are the next to check.

you can try switching to a different PSU and drive, while running the system outside of the case. this should test all three components.

the "eyesight" system in my '17 subaru outback is pretty decent. it's no tesla autopilot, but for what it does do, it does very well. - auto braking works as advertised. if the car in front of you suddenly stops/slows, and the system detects that you've not braked within a certain timefram...

I still have fond memories of the game but I quit after the Ascendend gear patch which turned the endgame into a WoW-esque gear grind that I despised and got tired of in as a former WoW addict. this is not even remotely true. 1st, ascended gear is very marginally better than exotic, the second high...

Re: Guild Wars 2 performance

is your video card getting a full PCI-e 16x 3.0 connection when the game is running? GW2 is strangely sensitive to PCI-e bandwidth. if you aren't getting a full 16x connection, the game would often start stuttering. there's been quite a few people who solved performance issues by simply reseating th...

So I'm a bit confused, Where does your mic plug in to? I would love to try a USB DAC to move away from my ancient Asus Xonar. But I use Teamspeak/mumble a lot for gaming purposes so I am unsure how to connect the mic. Does a Schiit product also offer mic control? NINJA EDIT: If anyone understands t...

i have an ODAC, as well as a behringer UCA222. both work flawlessly for me. i have two DACs, because i often record game footage. game/desktop sounds go through my ODAC, and teamspeak audio goes through my UCA222. recording programs like OBS Studio and DXTory allows me to record multiple audio strea...

Re: It's almost 2016, do we still like the xonar line?

i think sound cards that are actually worth spending the time and money would automatically be in the $150-$200 range, due to integrated audio being roughly comparable to anything cheaper. in those price categories, i'd much rather go with an ODAC and O2 amp than a high end Xonar. ODAC being USB is ...

Guild Wars 2 is 50% off until December 7th. It's a refreshing change from your run of the mill MMO, so if you're into RPGs, it's worth a shot.

You're talking about bandwidth, which has very little to do with latency. Yes, I can get around (real-world) 140MBit/s over my wireless and basic powerline stuff is more like 45-80Mbit, but when you're on 20MBit internet, does it make any difference to gaming? when the powerline adapter turns my 40...

the valve link refers to game streaming, not gaming over wifi. i personally game over wifi almost exclusively, and i've had no issues at all. i tried powerline adapters, and unless something changed drastically over the last year or so, i wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. terrible performanc...

I'll take flags with that kit. I'll shoot people from the hip (no-scoping) on the run; hell, I'll just stick the barrel in them and fire, if they're close. and you'll get much better results with a carbine. there's a reason why bolt actions aren't used in competitive play. the only times you'll see...

Re: Battlefiled 4: Hardcore and Snipers?

why would you use a bolt action in medium range? carbines and DMRs are infinitely better in that range. a silenced carbine is probably the best gun for playing a recon role.

i personally like it when somebody snipes me. it just means that there's a useless player on the opposing team.

Re: Battlefiled 4: Hardcore and Snipers?

all BF4 weapons are balanced around players having 100% health. hardcore mode breaks it, which leads to certain weapons and playstyles becoming hilariously powerful. from a game balance perspective, hardcore is fail. there's a reason why all competitive BF4 games are played with 100% health, even if...
