Re: TR and Macrium's Data Disasters contest entry thread

One time some years ago I was doing some drywall sanding in an adjacent room to where my computer was. I took every precaution by taping plastic sheeting over the doorway to prevent drywall dust from going everywhere. Later I was on my PC and that's when I noticed my secondary hard drive which was f...

Re: Win one of three Asus Xonar sound cards

Honestly I haven't bought a sound card in years. My PC audio setup currently consists of onboard sound from my EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard connected to a very old set of Logitech ZX-560 4.1 speakers.

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

Both of my Q6600 machines have been happily running Notfreds and the A3 SMP2 work units for a few months now. One VM crapped out and it can no longer download v6.29. I think when I originally set them up v6.02 upgraded itself to v6.24, and then to v6.29 once that came out. Anyway one of my machines ...

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

My notfreds VM crapped out last night after getting a bad WU and I was unable to wipe it in order to get back to folding. I decided to delete the VM and start from scratch. Configured everything and now I can't seem to get a WU. I think it's because the VM is using Folding@Home Client Version 6.02 a...

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

When will a new version with the new 6.29 folding client be available?

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

I notice the diskless appliance has an option for 4 processors. Which VMWare product would I need to use to be able to use 4 cores per virtual appliance?

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

Any word if or when FahMon will properly display Notfred's diskless folding appliance progress? I know FahSpy will show progress properly but I much prefer FahMon.

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

Another weird problem surfaced. I have two instances of this running on one of my Quad cores. #1 shows an out of memory error but is still folding fine and completing work units. #2 appears to have crapped out but task manager shows the cpu load is still at 94-100%. I can't even access the setup pag...

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

Seems to be working fine now on the default 640mb memory setting with A_2 core work units. With the previous version I had to increase the memory to 1024mb. One thing I noticed is when I need to reboot my PC I get some error messages in the VMWare Player window even though the work unit has been res...

Re: New Notfred diskless version out

How much ram does this version use? The last version I used was set to 600mb and I experienced out of memory errors and had to up it to 1GB. Not sure why though because my Ubuntu 8.04 x64 VMWare setups only need 512mb.

Re: New release of diskless folding suite

I guess I'll go back to running two Linux instances with VMWare. These diskless folding problems are getting to be too much.

Re: New release of diskless folding suite

I have no luck at all with this A2 core  : "out of memory: kill process 458 (mpiexec) score 5007 or a child killed process 463 (Fah core_A2.exe)
Every one craps out after only 3 or 4 steps are completed.

Re: New release of diskless folding suite

Thanks for the response. By the way, what's the trick to getting FahMon to display the diskless folding client speeds properly? I've tried both bridged and NAT with VMWare and most times FahMon will show the client as Hung even though it is working properly. Very rarely will it show the folding speed.

Re: New release of diskless folding suite

I followed LumberJack's guide on page one of this thread to the tee and am still unable to get this to save backups onto my USB thumb drive. Would it be a problem if I was running two diskless folding instances and using one thumb drive for both?

Re: New release of diskless folding suite

I was under the impression that if I set this to run an instance for every two processors that I just had to set that option when I downloaded the iso. I'm running this with VMWare Server 1.06 and it only sets up one instance with my Q6600. Isn't it supposed to set up two, or will it not work this w...
