Re: Webb delayed again

Just want to point out that another big budget Northrop/Harris satellite launched recently has a failed cooler. There has been no news in a month since the failure was announced of NOAA's GOES-17 cooling system. https://www.nesdis.noaa.gov/content/scientists-investigate-goes-17-advanced-baseline-ima...

Re: Data bases for dumb dumbs.

Just to reiterate, you don't need a database. You need a CRM solution. I'll just add Microsoft Dynamics CRM to the list. Their 800 number is on their front page. All these big CRM solutions providers want you to call them. Ask them questions, then go back to your co-workers better informed and come ...

Re: Which tablet would you buy?

The best tablet for reading is an E-Ink reader. They aren't sexy, but if you are actually going to sit for hours and read, the Kindle is superior to paper books in most ways. Tablet's are not good for heavy reading. Their batteries are just not up to it yet. That said, I have actually laid in bed an...

Re: MAC Address filtering across multiple access points

I'm not a networking guru but I imagine the best solution depends on your specific needs. If you want to do mac address filtering I'd imagine you'd want to filter based on the mac address for your remote access points, not the Macs of individual devices. Again depending upon your needs have you look...

Re: Database for small business

CMS/Project management apps like Basecamp are good options. I'd recommend you look into CRM solutions too. Your big hurdle isn't going to be getting an app up and running, it's going to be getting all your users using it correctly, and making it useful to them. I wouldn't get caught up by the word d...

Re: Starting a database-driven website

If all you need to do is get some basic data entry done to start you going, just head over to google docs, create a form and have at it. The results are saved to a spreadsheet that you can download in plenty of standard importable formats once you get to the point of deciding what actual platform y...

Re: Starting a database-driven website

LightSwitch would be familiar to a Filemaker user. Filemaker is a bad word though, dont say that again heh. You either need to talk to a web developer or become one. The decisions you are focusing on (database, hosting) are not the most important ones at this point. If all you need to do is get som...

Does anyone have tangible reason related to security? Almost every single one of the non-plugin vulnerabilities listed necessitate javascript to exploit. Note the frequency of new vulnerabilities. This is just a partial and delayed listing of what is publicly known. Internet Explorer Chrome Firefox

Re: Why is it that most females...

Trying to understand women will lead to enjoying them less. Just enjoy them for what they are. Know what you want. If the reason for posing this question is not pure science, when you do figure out the answer to your question (and an answer does exist) it could end up leading to aversion. You don't ...

Now that sir, is a clever idea. All the accounts are web-based, made exclusively for this purpose. The only part I'm fuzzy on is the home server bit... Any good guides out there for hosting your own content? Simplest way would be to grab Mongoose . It's a self contained web server, no install. Just...

Re: Email Harassment

Reply back with a subtle image or a link to a web server where you have full access to the logs. You can set up a web server on your home machine to do it even. If the senders email client is configured to load images automatically, all he needs to do is open it and you have his IP address as long a...

Re: A variation on the Utility Player (and questions)

I'm in the process of building a very similar machine. I am also ignoring the AMD fanboys heh :) I can't relate any actual experience with parts, but I can share my research. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy- look at my signature. Right now Intel doesn't compete on the low end with current ...

Re: Really slow internet

If the pc you hooked the modem directly up to doesn't have some kind of virus, then the problem is your connection. The timing on the subscription plan change from is suspicious. They could have messed up your account when they did the change. Call them back and try and get them to send out a tech. ...

Re: Diving Into the World of Servers

Well there are stream hosting services out there ranging in price. Orb might be functional...but doesn't really meet the fun requirement 8). If as it sounds, you are looking for a huge amount of disk space it's probably just best to get a dedicated server from a hosting company, or find a local data...

Re: Game Prices

I'm not rich by a long shot, but I could easily see myself paying $200 + a subscription fee for a game if I knew it was so good that I was going to be playing it for years. In retrospect, I probably paid near $500 for Everquest 1 with all the expansions and sub fees. On the other hand, I paid $50 fo...
