Thanks for all the help. I found a different way. I looked in the window of the case and discovered a screw on the bottom of the lock mechanism. I took off two of the front bay covers. I reached inside with a screw driver and took out the screw and was able to easily disassemble the lock and get my ...

If the HSF is properly installed, that sensor has to be wacky! I have the Q9300 on same board (GA-EP45-UD3R)

im not really saying put a gumball size, but if you put lets say double the amount you should, id otn see logically how it would be any different... It might be harder, if any, to push the push pins down... But i don't think the end result would be any thicker between the HSF and the CPU...

I think what you're missing is that all of the excess won't get squeezed out, especially if the compound is particularly gooey. It was probably less of a concern back in the days of bare chips (Socket A) since the surface area was much smaller, making it easier for the excess to get squeezed out. W...
