Re: Core i7 build - what do guys think?

That's an overkill power supply, a downgrade in the hard drives, and a completely unneeded SSD. Try again. (Otherwise, it looks good. OP, it's good to keep an eye out for combos like that.) I know its an overkill PSU, its an attempt to meet at middle ground with the OP's choice. If it were me for t...

Yes, your PC will idle around ~100W and under full load maybe hit ~170W. The quality of the wattage is more important than the quantity 8)

Re: my first biuld looking for feed back

Go for the Corsair Dominator. Is this going to be a gaming build? because you will be overdoing the CPU part and under doing the GPU part. If you plan to do any overclocking then just get the 920 because you can get that up to 4Ghz pretty easily. Also for a modern build you can skip the Velociraptor...

Now that build looks good. The only thing that NEEDS to be changed is the PSU, for $5 more get the Corsair CX400W Power Supply. The other PSU isn't really 50W more powerful ;)

Re: Got a good video card for me?

I recently installed a 4650 like the one Gerbil Jedidiah suggested (in a friends PC) and the fan was loud and the heatsink almost pushed against the PCI socket.

This 4670 looks like a good deal and comes with a free game: MSI R4670-MD512 Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3

Nvidia cards will add little to no performance, if you are looking at that option.

Re: Memory no good for MB/Processor?

Sending higher voltage to the ram can't kill the cpu, but it can ruin the ram. The i5 has the memory controller on chip, so a high enough voltage can cause problems. Not sure if it will kill the CPU in a puff of blue smoke, but I don't think anyone wants to find out. The RAM voltage should be just ...

Re: Memory no good for MB/Processor?

Sending higher voltage to the ram can't kill the cpu, but it can ruin the ram. Your ram has tight timmings and uses a high voltage, you need to adjust the voltage until its stable. To make sure its stable you need to dl Memtest86+ and make a bootable CD, then boot into memtest and let it run for atl...

I'd suggest to go on a civic forum, but make sure you read all their stickies other wise their going to flame you hard.

A drop in K&N will not make any more power. A proper cold air intake will make a few HP on a civic.

So for what your doing, raid would be silly. If you had a server then I'd say yeah, but for what your using RAID is not a solution. Your going to do regular backups, so thats all thats needed. At the very least get a surge supressor, Trip-Lite makes the best. If you have power issues in your area or...

Do you have a HTPC? You could sell the cpu on ebay for ~$150, with the money buy an AMD 785G MB and CPU easily with that money.

If you like to OC and tweak you might be interested in the Calisto dual core, its a phenom with two cores disabled. Its still has most of the cache of a phenom though, and you can OC it even if by chance the two other cores can't be unlocked. AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz Socket...

A quad core is a complete waste for a server application. Also the side port memory is not a factor, don't buy a board because it has it, or doesn't.

That video card isn't that great with DDR2.

Personally go with one stick of ram Crucial 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

That card uses very little power in idle, its like 10-15W.

For the server only MB, this MSI GF615M-P33 AM3 NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Micro ATX AMD Motherboard would be a good choice, its pure AM3 and DDR3. The AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 would go perfectly with it.

If your going to microcenter then the i5 750 is the way to go, its only $150 over there. Get a good P55 MB to go with it, like Asus or Gigabyte.
