Re: Brainteasers and Riddles

Here's an ancient one (from the tenth century or earlier), with an old timey answer: I am a treasure to men, widely found Taken from the forests, cliff-sides, hills, valleys, downs; By day wings carry me in buzzing air, Hide me under their sheltering roofs with skill. Soon a man finds me and carries...

Yeah...the English didn't bother me so much, but a few things did: 1) They supposedly jumped a million light years to Earth. That would mean they from intergalactic space, not the Milky Way. There are globular clusters within a few hundred thousand light years of the Milky Way, but there are none wi...

Re: battlestar Galactica

Well, last night's episode was disappointingly slow. With only a handfull of episodes left, I expected a lot more plot movement. I don't disagree, but I am torn on the episode. On the one hand, the gritty realism that show looks for more or less demands an episode showing people wallowing in their ...

Re: The new Doctor Who announced

Awww man, Tennant really can't be mad, can he? I'm watching an episode where Rose loses her face, and the Doctor gets mad about it...but it's just laughable. :( I want Eccleston back already, though Tennant does make love stories easier to swallow. He did okay at the very end of the episode where h...

Re: Software piracy, and why it is awesome.

From the standpoint of economics, the digital age has converted a largely (though not entirely) traditional good, recorded media, and changed it into something that looks a lot like a public good. With a public good, each consumer can make use the whole product in its entirety without depriving any ...

Re: The new Doctor Who announced

I have yet to watch any of the new Dr. Who shows. I don't think I will as I don't want to ruin my memories of the old show I watched as a kid. Take it from this Tom Baker devotee; the last two seasons of Tennant's stint have been excellent. Tennant's Doctor reminded me of Baker, a bit too much for ...

Premiering next year in London's O2 arena, the production will be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in sync with movie clips from the six live-action films. The show grew on me a tiny but, though I blame the scarcity of alternative scifi this summer. I have even gotten over Lt. Col. John "Longhair" Sheppard's not seeming to own a comb. I don't know that I'll miss it, though, as hopefully it will last until BSG and/or Doctor Who returns.

I refuse to shop in "stores" because I do not like the stance they take against stealing. Napster? That is all that way. Music, like it or not, is a product and if you take it without paying for it (unless the owner consents) that's no different than stealing from them. Even if you disagre...

I agree. You should sleep for at least a month or two and bank that. You can then use up your stockpiled sleep later. I'm sure it works that way.
