Re: 1080Ti roundups

My 1080Ti FE is insane at 3440x1440. So far everything is pegged at 97-100 FPS (some games hover at 97 or 98 FPS instead of being a constant 100FPS; not sure why).

Re: Shield K1 out of production?

No one is buying a Shield as a Switch substitute; Switch buyers (or oglers) want Nintendo software. I can only speak for me, but I've been eyeing several gaming tablets to get while I wait for the Switch software market to improve. So 'no one' is definitely inaccurate. (Though technically, I'm eyei...

It depends. I'm definitely planning on going 4K for Scorpio but I still haven't seen a good reason to go above 1440P for PC gaming.

Wound up getting a good deal on a Dell Ultrasharp 25" 1440 from a local shop going out of business (I am a vulture!). OMG. This is the best monitor I've ever used and I'm mad I didn't buy one sooner. NOW, to save up and buy a 27" 4k next year and turn this one vertical as a secondary moni...

Dead PCIe Slot *or* Did Kretschmer Wreck a Cap?

Edit: I'm a noob; cleared BIOS and everything is working fine. I recently built a i7 7700K/GTX 1070 build in a Node 304 ITX case. Motherboard is a ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xXdFf7/asrock-fatal1ty-z270-gaming-itxac-mini-itx-lga1151-motherboard-fatal1ty-z270-gaming-itxac)....

Re: Hold Out for Ryzen 5?

My money is on higher IPC as the limiter for gaming, as there will always be that one thread that everything else is waiting on. 4C/8T or 6C/12T becomes more appealing when you're doing other things concurrently (like streaming). You're also avoiding platform growing pains.

Sent out my 1070 for a 1080Ti and will be on integrated graphics for at least a week. Intel IGPs don't seem to do well with 3440x1440, but Diablo 3 is smooth at 1366x768.

"Crossover" sells a 27" IPS 100hz monitor for $340, but I can't speak to the response times or quality: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2RY3MK9378 There are a bunch of TN monitors between $300-400 with similar specs. Note that 100+Hz doesn't necessarily mean that ...

Re: Samsung C34F791 for $850

1500R is amazing, but just eyeballing the curve it's still less than 3" of depth from the center to corner. If you're worried about depth I'd be more concerned with the enormous stand than the curve. 1900R isn't going to be much different. I personally dislike curved monitors. If you're not ga...

Re: Samsung C34F791 for $850

I'm a little uncomfortable with the 1500R curve. I was planning to put a 1200p 24" monitor in portrait and put it on the side. Seems too much curve to put another monitor on the side? I would think a 1900R is better for that? Also it is deeper and eat into the depth of my desk. 1500R is amazin...

Re: AotS Ryzen patch

This game always makes me chuckle when it pops up in these discussions, as I feel like more reviewers and benchmarkers own it than actual players.

This patch tells us little about how Ryzen will perform across a wider population of games; AotS could just be poorly-optimized.

Re: Final decisions for new build

Of course, it's great if you can buy an item that you want during a sale. Comparing the discounted price of one item to the list price of another is disingenuous. Between the Viewsonic and AOC models, there's always a 27" GSync at or near $600. I'm just saying that the "$200 GSync premium...

Re: Final decisions for new build

NVidia's proprietary G-Sync system maintains its price premium. G-Sync monitors cost about $200 more than otherwise-identical monitors without variable refresh rate. VESA standard adaptive sync ("FreeSync") is nearly free. FreeSync monitors cost $0 to $20 more than otherwise-identical mon...

Re: New Build!!

I agree for large cases, but AIO is a much easier build for ITX and small MATX. My last build was relatively smooth with a 140mm AIO but would have been hell with a tower cooler. That's why things like this and this exist for! The Thermalright in the particular is likely to do a better job than a 1...

Power = heat = noise. I agree, but you typically pick a system's thermal solutions to be as quiet and cool as possible at full load. If my system is already quiet and cool at full load, throttling in certain games isn't going to do much. Quiet and cool as possible under full load doesn't mean a sys...

Re: New Build!!

I cannot endorse AOI watercoolers with anything less than a thick 240mm radiator. The water being pumped around doesn't magically add cooling, it simply replaces the copper heatpipes in an air cooler. Until you start to get serious overclocks pushing more than 150W through the CPU, the 4 heatpipes ...

Re: New Build!!

While NVidia cards are slightly more power efficient at full tilt, AMD offers the ability to set a framerate limit in which the card will automatically throttle itself to only deliver up to the max fps set (see: Framerate Target Control and Chill) which can save gobs of power (and heat/noise) in le...

If you want a quiet CPU cooler, and something that won't interfere with using the memory slots, use something like: CORSAIR Hydro Series H55 Just an FYI that I had to replace the fan on my H90 as being way too loud. Re: 1080Ti: Founders Edition or Wait?

The 1070Ti was also released at a higher MSRP than $980Ti/2, so we haven't arrived, yet. Will next year's GPUs match a 980Ti for $325? Probably, but Pascal was a quantum leap forward that may be difficult to replicate. I'm comfortable with frontloading my investment to run at 3440x1440. :) You mean...

Re: 1080Ti: Founders Edition or Wait?

The GTX 1080Ti step up would be $320 + tax + shipping, which is not bad at all for an upgrade (pay 84% more than a GTX 1070 for ~60-75% more performance). I'd likely have to wait a few years to get GTX 1080Ti performance for that $320, so why not step up now and get the faster performance years ear...

Yes, for mITX cases a blower style will be best. Out of curiosity, how much do they offer you in trade-in? Is it equal/more than you can get on Ebay?
