Re: Goodbye Vega 56 at MSRP

It's edging into the territory where the Vega markup offsets the G-Sync tax... It depends. Maybe for the lower range. But when you get into 4k or 3440x1440p panels, G-sync models are generally considerably more than the delta in price between a 1080 and Vega 64. This is because G-sync selection is ...

That bottom graph is completely misleading for our discussion: 1) Intel integrated graphics not used for 3D gaming is not relevant to 3D gaming developer support/optimization/etc. E.g. all thos...

Re: ExpressCard, is it still a thing?

The T430 is over five years old, so looking for current add-in cards for an interface that were niche at the time is quite a fishing expedition. That said, a cursory search on Amazon and Newegg would answer your question without yet another thread.

As Jerry Maquire said SHOW ME THE NUMBER Is that really too much to ask? Explain to me what exactly Nvidia's 82% of market share really is. You've quoted the Steam survey likes it's a gamers GPU bible so please explain to me how they work out the percentages. Am I speaking in a foreign language? Se...

Re: Your Impressions of Curved Monitors

I've owned both 34" flat and 34" curved monitors and prefer the flat. At 27-32", the curve is pretty pointless. But my use case is a bit unique (monitor doubles as television).

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

Because it is the fastest Freesync-capable GPU on the market right now that happens to be a very powerful customer-tier GPGPU. Vega 64 easily matches fully enabled Titan XP at most GPGPU stuff (most recent drivers for Titan) for less $$$$. Not everything revolves around silly games. The tech does s...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

Vega line-up has very strong demand for it as much you would expect from a high-end performance GPU. It is about same demand as 1080 and 1080Ti. If demand was practically non-existent as you claim, then there should be Vega 64 and 56 boxes collecting dust on etailer/retailer shelves. Actually, the ...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

The Samsung C34F791, for one, is a 100Hz 3440x1440 Freesync monitor. This was the monitor in the Vega bundles... Yeah, and AMD FINALLY fixed FreeSync on the CF791 recently (after almost a year). Be careful to do your research before buying a FreeSync 1 monitor, because a lot of them are dogs (adapt...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

Another way to put it is that stock Vega 56 is a bit faster than stock 1070. Making them similar in performance (either by powersaving on the 56 or overclocking the 1070) probably narrows the power difference even further. If you're going to hand tweak your cards, though, it would seem to make sens...

Re: Vega Meta Analysis

Why Vega is a Failure with a capital F: 1) You won't be able to buy one anywhere near MSRP for months. Unless you've spent tons of dough on a FreeSync display, it makes sense to just grab Pascal. 2) Power consumption is stupid for the performance. (Lesser) Enthusiasts sites are recommending that buy...

Re: Goodbye Vega 56 at MSRP

Vega 56 isn't even available in Canada. And seeing as Vega 64 is the same price as a 1080 Ti in Canada, I decided to go with one of the latter. With the lack of value and options in G-Sync monitors at the moment, I guess variable refresh will have to wait a bit. Hopefully AMD has their supply issue...

Re: Am I crazy to buy a friends used parts?

My friend just upgraded his system to a new I7-7700K which meant a new motherboard and memory as well. He offered me most of his old parts for $300. Its basically identical to my primary system and the parts will be used for my wife, son, daughter as a secondary system. So for $300 I get: I7-4770K ...

Re: Goodbye Vega 56 at MSRP

I think AMD's market share will continue to increase. Not everyone min/maxes or reads every review, or cares that the Vega cards run a bit hot and heavy. They'll see the newest cards on the market, and then see the price of a new monitor, and realize that it may just be a better deal than a compara...

Maybe I'm just easier to please than some folks. Thanks for the jibe. Re: Goodbye Vega 56 at MSRP

I am totally not regretting my 1080Ti purchase at launch right now. I think AMD is digging themselves into a huge hole. Their Vega GPUs were late, they misrepresented performance, and they misrepresented price. With all these cards being bought for mining, their share of the high-end GPU market (and...

Re: Guild Wars 2 performance

Guild Wars 2 just plain runs poorly. It could be slow on my Core 2 Duo and GTX 460. It was slow on my Ivy Bridge/660Ti/290X. And there are still parts that slow down to embarrassing lows on my 7700K/1080Ti. All fresh installs.

Re: 4K monitor

I picked up an X34 and it's insane for productivity (think 3 program windows side-by-side or one huuuuuuge Excel sheet). Just be aware that these screens are slower than their smaller gaming counterparts and require serious horsepower to game at 100FPS (even my 1080Ti isn't enough for some games).

Every time Google does something like this I think about the time it took to create this thing just so it can be on Google's homepage for a day and then never seen again.

And yet it will be played by more people for more hours than most indie games! :)

I also disagree with you on the "Samsung has courage" part. If they had courage they would've stood behind the product. If they leave customers like you twisting in the wind when their gamble doesn't work out, that's not courage, that's just greedy/sleazy. At least they seem to have done ...

Cool story, bro!

I don't know why people read so much into the pricing change. NVidia soaks early adopters for a premium, too, and AMD clearly needs the margins.
