So, restored the hd image for Win10 and booted up. Not. The restored image refuses to boot with error 0cx0000034. Repair from a win10 install disk cant fix it. Did you actually get the GTX 750 Ti? I've never had a problem getting the security code sent to alternate emails. you just have select another method. I can pick from 2 emails and 2 cell phones, as well as an authentication app. I'm not sure why you're having this problem. Yea, there is something strange with the setup of this account...

You should be able to boot to a Hiren's boot CD and use the "Offline NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 Password Changer" on the Local Administrator account and set Password the password to null, this will get you access to the box as Administrator. Then you can decide what user/live profile you want to ...

The good news is that Mediaportal supports Windows 10. If your Hauppage card also works under 10 then I would just bite the bullet and buy a full version of Windows 10 and do a clean install. Just a quick note on my (temporary) Vista upgrade to Win8 experience...

Win8 was *much* faster than Vista on the same hardware.

I did not use Win8 on that older hardware though because the graphics hardware (ATI Radeon 4670) was "legacy" in Windows 8 and this was an HTPC.

Looks like the 750ti is the way to go. things to consider:

- ideally no additional 6 pin power (for older 430W PSU)
- card height

I'll poke around at the various 750ti options presented and see what I like.

Thanks for all the good replies. At this point I am leaning toward nvidia. Height of card will be the biggest issue so the front runner is the low profile gigabyte 750ti. I don't see any point updating the psu if the 750ti draw is similar to the 4670.
