Re: Something's different...

Although I rarely comment or use the forum, I've been reading TR for over 10 years. I'm glad you guys were able to publish a new CPU review after such a long review drought, and I know it's been a rough year for the site. I'm also self-aware enough to know that my reaction to change is usually "...

I've never played the first Diablo or the first Warcraft. This is like Christmas. I'll wait until GoG has all three and see if they offer a bundle deal.

Antec Gaming Series One and a Corsair CX400. Very low budget, but I have no complaints.

You can of course just underclock a non-T processor to get a similar power savings.

Re: Is Skylake going to be a legitimately big deal for deskt

It's a legitimately big deal for *me* because my desktop is going on 5 years old now, and I've decided to finally scratch that upgrade itch. I'll be skipping directly from DDR2 to DDR4 (using a Phenom II X4 940 now). But in general... no. Just a very minor evolutionary improvement over the last gene...

Individual components? You could look up the model number and find a good photo online. Obviously that wouldn't be "your" part, but the same model is the same model. If you want a camera recommendation, you can't beat the photo quality of a dSLR. The sensor is bigger and better than a litt...

The Celeron G530 benches as almost exactly the same, performance-wise, as a Core 2 Duo E8400. Not bad for being clocked 600MHz lower, with better power consumption and integrated graphics.

Re: ValleyView: Next Generation Atom SoC using Ivy Bridge GP

Besides, David Kanter said Intel's 22nm Atom cellphone chip will have PowerVR Series 6 GPU in it. It would be silly to switch to an in-house low-power GPU for just one intermediate chip. With Windows-for-ARM imminent, is there any point to an x86 cellphone CPU? Intel has already lost that battle. A...

I played thousands of hours- I kid you not- of SimCity 2000 in 7th-12th grades or so. I mastered that game. Wasn't very impressed with its sequels, 3000 or 4; they had better graphics but less intricate gameplay. And I just didn't invest the time a research into learning their ins-and-outs like I ha...

It screws through the motherboard into a metal backplate. That's about as secure as a heatsink can be made.

I'll miss that game, though. :( You could try an older version of Windows, like Win98 (keys easy to...

Intel's mainstream drives (formerly X25-M, now called 320) aren't the cheapest or fastest SSDs, but they're the only ones I would recommend to most people. In my opinion they're much higher quality than other SSDs, and it's not just my opinion. Drive failure rates: http://www.hardware.fr/articles/81...
